Seaman George McNamara asks for support for a U S war aid campaign in Naugatuck. The message thanks donors, notes many servicemen benefited from hospitality, and urges continued donations through the local savings bank treasurer for the relief fund.
New York report says Adolf Hitler had his head measured by a panel of experts in Hitler's Munich apartment in February 1987. The claim, described by UP correspondent Frederick G. Oechsner, portrays Hitler as eager to appear the ideal race example. Measurements included the skull breadth, likened to Napoleon's, as Hitler beamed.
The House passed a bill granting enlisted men a retroactive raise to 50 per month, dating from June first, and it moves to the Senate where concurrence is expected as the upper chamber already accepted the 50 figure. The U S Civil Service Commission announced a data examination to hire stenographers and typists for Washington D C. The test will be held Saturday June 48 at 2 p m in Naugaluck. Applicants aged 48 by October 4 1942 may take part. Salaries are 1440 for typists and 4620 per year for stenographers. Interested persons should obtain forms and more information from Secretary Raymond Lafferty at the local post office.

John Ostroski, chair of the Naugatuck Veterans Council, said flags and some memorial towers were removed from the World War Memorial on Meadow Street since Mel Day. Officials urge the youths responsible to return the flags as a patriotic duty.

Named defendants include Anastase Vonslatsky a Russian immigrant and Fascist leader, two former German officers, a Chicago Nazi bund leader who fled the country, and a Philadelphia Lutheran minister. Prosecutors call the indictment one of the most significant spy rings in U.S. history.
Lone Pine California June 0 UP two more bodies recovered from army plane that carried eight men to their death last December. Bodies are being taken to March Field near Riverside California. One is Lieutenant Homer Burns of Spokane Washington whose father searched the mountains. The other is Major Hugh McCaffrey of Chester Pennsylvania.
Edwin G Miller of 138 Cilay Street Insletonor In Science at Nauga tuck high school earned a Master of Arts in Education at NYU's 140th commencement in New York City. About 4400 graduates received degrees. 15,000 attendees watched as Chancellor Harry Woodburn Chase delivered the address.
Hartford report notes three year old David Trudeau drowned in a Park River incident while playing near the bank. A second drowning involved six year old Dontine VigHotti of Stamford who disappeared in a swimming pond at the Connecticut Junior Republic in Litchfield.
A distorted report notes Japanese nationals and diplomats aboard the Gripsham will joyfully drink American beer upon arrival. It says 72,000 hobbies of beer will be available and 25,000 pounds of sugar to be exchanged for American goods in Portuguese East Africa.
Three men Raymond Teller Malin alrec and Nichalne Apalacel of 32 Rosemount avenue Waterbury and Thomas Jackson of 16 Goenstreet Naugatuck faced charges in Waterbury municipal court for operating a horse race betting room. Judge Edward J Daly issued warrants and set bonds at 2500 each after raids by Waterbury police and the state’s attorney’s office. Les Bowen 398 North Main Street Waterbury posted bond as security for release. A plea is expected to be entered in municipal court.
An Aaniio Port report praises stewardess Consuela Gonzalez for unwavering duty aboard a merchantman torpedoed at sea. The 42 year old crew member reportedly obeyed orders to stay in the cabin while lifeboats launched. Captain, 43 survivors, and 34 others in lifeboats were rescued after 54 hours afloat.
Delphine Mummy of 467 Alton Park Road Waterbury is held by borough court police for trial tomorrow morning charged with stealing an auto owned by Pond IV for whom he worked as a farm hand. The auto was stolen last night and he was picked up by Waterbury police. He was brought to Naugatuck this morning by Serat Anthony Farrar and Pat Johnan Martin Garrick and unable to furnish $1,500 bond, held until trial.

In Quincy Massachusetts a navy amphibian plane crashed into a marsh about a mile from the Squantum naval air base after a motor failure. Pilot Joseph Breslove and two crewmen escaped the overturned craft. Machinist’s mate John W Giardor was the only airman hospitalized.
