The struggle centers on whether to back Borah or endorse the Porter resolution opposing it, as talks among Navy appropriations conferees continue.
No clues had been discovered up to noon today as to the identity of the murderer who yesterday shot and killed Joseph M. Parsons a farmer at his home in Norfolk and seriously injured his sister Miss Mary Parsons who was visiting. An autopsy performed in the forenoon disclosed no bullet wounds in the head. There is no trace of the murderer or the weapon, police say.
John Golden, president of the United Textile Workers of America, died at his Brooklyn home today. The body will be taken to Pall River, Mass.
Bridgeport June 6 Adolph Jéndres a 69 year old cigar maker was found dead in a rooming house bathroom with a gas tube around his neck. Wire letters to family and a funeral director were sent today. Death described as the result of despondency during personal crisis.
Washington June 9 President Standings today sent a message of condolence to Mrs W W Gallbraith widow of the commander of the American Legion who was killed in an automobile accident in Indianapolis The president voiced sympathy in the great and sudden sorrow and praised Col Gallbraith for his commanding personality zeal and devotion to country The Legion and the nation share in the loss attributed to the accidentWARREN C HARDING.
In Toledo Ohio on Walnut street 611 a siege ends with Thomas Kelly 48 dead after firing from an attic and police using a machine gun and ammonia. Officers Harold Mossbrueger and Marty A Dowell also die in the hours long confrontation. Kelly had refused to pay rent to the boarding house keeper leading to the standoff.
At Bridgeport June 9 the Connecticut Federation of Labor condemned the Winchester Repeating Arms Co of New Haven for allegedly flooding New Haven with foreign labor. A black list by state manufacturers was reported. The executive board was empowered to investigate and pursue legal action if warranted. It also seeks passage of health and safety legislation for polishing trade workers. O Meara received authority to form a three member committee to study a state trade union college and was honored with a traveling bag for his forty first birthday.
Middletown fire crew rushes to a small Center street fire and uncovers a large still in operation with a heavy quantity of hooted liquor. Police arrest Vincenzo Magnono on Volstead Act charges as the largest such still found in the area.
Dixon A. McWatton, former New York book publisher and longtime Norwalk resident, died at his home after a yearlong illness. He was 59. His wife, a Norwalk woman, survives him.
London reports that Japanese military forces under General Kumura at Vladivostok are extending occupation into towns of strategic importance in eastern Siberia. The Moscow Soviet protests to Britain and France while Soviet Russia’s note is returned with a curt reply, labeling the protest as unfounded.
New York reported a distress call from the Charlot, 2179 tons, crew of 37, grain cargo to London and Hamburg. The ship, off New Brunswick June 2 after engine trouble and delays in Long Island Sound, reported a completely stove in bow and serious condition. Seapool, a British freighter, struck an iceberg and headed to St John’s. Rochambeau, once confused with Seapool, sent a confirming message: Everything OK.
Mexico City reports the June 9 note from Washington on U S Mexican relations covers commercial and political points. Foreign officials say commercial terms could be accepted with moderation if Mexican workers receive reciprocal guarantees similar to those for American workers in Mexico.
London reports Admiral Sims will not retract his caustic remarks about Sinn Fein and Irish Americans. In a Westminster Gazette interview he says he will not repudiate a word and will respond to any Denby cable in the same terms. Washington dispatches indicate Denby sent a cable demanding explanation.
The Beacon Falls Rubber Shoe Company factory will resume operations in the mill room on June 16 after a shutdown posted February 19 signaling an indefinite closure. The note adds that the plant will reopen Thursday, June 16.

A U S Marine Corps airplane fell into the Potomac River off Colonial Beach Virginia this morning. Lieut W S Brown the pilot was killed. Sergeant Bagby who was in the plane was rescued and Brown’s body has not been recovered.
