A federal jury rejected Stefanie Toise’s claim Yale University failed to aid her with dyslexia during graduate study. The jury ruled in Yale’s favor, noting the university provided substantial assistance. Toise, who earned a Master’s in Public Health from Yale, alleged delays in her program due to lack of support.
A Ryder tractor-trailer drifted off Interstate 40 near a rest area in Jackson Tennessee, toppled an embankment and landed on an oxygen tanker causing an explosive crash that killed five people. Police say the driver appeared to fall asleep at the wheel and the resulting fire sent a 75 foot flame mushroom cloud into thick black smoke.
NHS baseball advances to the state quarterfinals with a dominant win sectioned in local play. The team posted strong pitching and timely hitting to secure a crucial victory. Notable players stepped up as coaches praised discipline and teamwork guiding the squad toward the next round.
After a successful referendum, Naugatuck High plans a modern cafeteria with a university style food court. The redesign adds a large seating area for 600 across three lunch waves, a fully equipped kitchen, separate hot and cold service lines, and new hallways to improve lunch flow.
Army Specialist Timothy M. Kiernan, son of Cliff and Regina Kiernan of 464 Spring St, is among 2,000 soldiers in Task Force Hawk deployed to Albania. NHS students Tom Brewer Jeremy Nelson and Frank Rodrigues with Principal Gary Mala created a visual fire evacuation plan for Naugatuck High School. Fluent in CADD, they mapped easy exits fastest routes and gathering points to guide students and visitors during emergencies.
Paul Kelly and Steve Litke have donated 32 years to Union City Little League. Kelly served 19 years coaching Farm to Senior Girls teams, sometimes two at once, and sits on the league board. Litke logged 13 years coaching across divisions, also two teams at times, and serves on the board. Both are longtime community volunteers with deep local ties and a shared habit of Dunkin Donuts coffee.
