Peter Rasmussen native of Denmark born October 12 1874 died yesterday after an illness. He served as sexton of St Michael's Episcopal Church for years and previously worked at Bristol Company. Survived by wife Christina and five daughters and five grandchildren. Funeral Saturday 11 am Alder son Funeral Home Meadow Street with Rev Willard Soper officiating. Burial Grove Cemetery. Visitation Friday 3-5 and 7-9 pm.
Private Edward Pless, a 191 Scots infantryman, arrived yesterday in Seattle aboard the Navy transport Marine Lynx after en route from the Korean battlefront. His arrival highlights ongoing troop movements and reinforcements in the Pacific theater.
Rev Albert Taylor administrative appointment to St Stephen's Hamden announced by Bishop Henry J. O'Brien. He will assume his first pastorate next week after serving St Francis and St Patrick's in Hartford areas. Plans include moving parish operations to a new site near Ridge and Park roads.

Police and railroad officials investigated the 4:10 p.m. incident. brake beam freezing cited as a common derailment cause.

Hartford June 4 AP Governor logs signed a bill for a statewide vote June 22 on two constitutional amendments aimed at preventing delays in inaugurations and simplifying the constitution by incorporating four amendments. Also approved are absentee voting for residents who move away and allowing petition circulators to collect signatures. Local officials expect a borough board referendum details meeting next week and a possible appointment of a single assessor.

The United Lutheran Synod of New York and New England rejected boosting regional conferences from six to 20 at the New Haven convention. The Long Island conference opposed dividing into Brooklyn Queens and Nassau-Suffolk. A special committee will re study reorganizing the synod for a 1954 Johnson City New York convention. Rev. George A Hagedorn of Meriden was named to the home missions committee.
Herbert Antoine Richardson, a first year student at Yale University School of Music, won two scholarships toward his Bachelor of Music. The awards were announced at the Commencement Concert by Dean Bruce Shmends during intermission, with Richardson receiving the Julia Silliman Scholarship and one of five Charles H. Ditson Scholarships funded by 1981 contributions. Richardson, son of Mr and Mrs Calvin M Richardson of Naugatuck, is a Crosby High School graduate.
An overflow crowd in Beacon Falls rejected the school bonding plan 162 to 3129 after an April 23 town meeting had approved 50 to 45 for remodeling Center School and adding four new classrooms a cafeteria kitchen administration and health rooms on Clark Field. First Selectman Frank Semplenski called for an unofficial confidence vote for the School Building Committee but the No side prevailed prompting a town meeting to choose a new committee. The session included tense exchanges over debt implications if the plan was rejected.
Negotiations resumed at the Naugatuck Footwear Plant as Local 45 United Rubber Workers CIO and U S Rubber Co reach a tentative pact previously rejected by union members. A 15 day strike notice followed union rejection, with talks expected to continue long and no immediate agreement in sight. The union committee led by President Clifford Owens had endorsed the contract before the rejection surprised both sides. Details of issues remain undisclosed to the public.
George Gibran and Marlene and Karen Gi bran were admitted yesterday afternoon for tonsillectomy at St. Marys Hospital. They are children of Mr and Mrs George Gibran of 50 Anderson Street. Thomas Stack aged 18 of Bridge Street was reported improving this morning at St Marys Hospital and his name was removed from the danger list as Mrs Stack has returned home after a gas incident Sunday.
