Henry Titley Named Assessor By Board

Four Convicted Men Pay Fines in Deputy Sheriff Death

Middlebury Vermont June 3 Four men including two brothers paid fines totaling 1482 after being convicted of manslaughter in the death of Deputy Sheriff Ray Russell of Monkton who was killed last July during a milk strike of dairy farmers. Fines were paid by William J., 23, and his brother, 28, both of Panton, Martin Pliger, 2, of Waltham, and Donald of Ferrisburg. Russell was pulled from a truck as he attempted to clear a gauntlet of striking farmers on the Waltham Vergennes road and fell beneath the rear wheels.
