The U S Senate confirmed Joseph B R Talbot of Naugatuck to a six year term on the Tariff Commission, beginning June 16. The former Connecticut congressman already serves on the commission and holds a $15,000 yearly post. Talbot has been a prosecutor, borough court judge, state treasurer, workers compensation commissioner, and five term U S representative from the Fifth District. He was defeated for the U S Senate in 1950 by Brien Mac Mahon. He is a prominent figure in Republican politics locally and nationally.

Oxford Man Given Suspended Term
Alfred Sonnenstuhl, 24, of Chestnut Hill Road Oxford, received a suspended one year term in Superior Court. Judge Edward J. Quin Inn imposed bail after Sonnenstuhl pleaded guilty to aggravated assault for firing seven shots at his wife Mildred’s car with a .22 rifle on April 7 after an argument. One shot hit the car.
