War Bond Drive At Rubber Plant Proves Highly Successful
Big German offensive aside, the local rubber plant has raised over $206000 in war bonds since the drive began last month. Winners announced include a $125 merchandise credit at Breen’s Sport Shop and several other prizes. Joan J. Former Local Resident Wounded in German Action

Fatally Hurt Brakeman Dies After Truck Collision
John J. Pettit, 62, of West Haven, a New Haven railroad brakeman, died after being struck by a truck on a railroad track. The driver, Joseph Maresca of New Haven, is detained by police pending inquiry. Pettit had been switching tracks when the accident occurred in New Haven.

Local Man In Bus Double Car Crash In Waterbury
Herbert Taylor of Jones Road Millville allegedly tried to turn left into Big Del Lux Market on South Main Street Waterbury and was involved in a collision with a Neugatuck Waterbury bound bus headed north. The bus driver Caine attempted to pass and struck Taylor’s car then a parked car owned by Thomas Thomas. No injuries reported. Taylor’s car badly damaged. Caine must appear in Waterbury city court to answer reckless driving charges.

Local Sailor Among Survivors Of Lost Oil Tanker
