Maigatuck-Alutinii Clash Heads To Tuesday Night

Former Greyhound stars Rado and Slomecewski cannot play under NCAA rules in the Tuesday Mazigatuck-Alutinii matchup. Rado now attends Georgia after a stint at Manhattan and will not join the Alumni five in the main game. The junior varsity contest at Gik0poun precedes the feature, with alumni including Bougtian, Federowies, Klima sewski, Sundberg, and Johnson listed among returning players.

Winter Weather Hits Many Parts Of The Nation

United Press International reports a first day of winter weather across the nation with blizzard conditions in the Northern plains and icy cold in the Dixie region. Fog in southern California and light snow from Michigan to New England accompanied a new polar air mass. Wind gusts up to 62 mph hit Denver airport, overturning two planes. construction workers injured at Clark Canyon Dam. Utilities cut in one area as snow covered the Dakotas and stretched to Kansas and Colorado. Canadian blizzard warnings and extreme cold followed north of the border.

Murder Trial Set For Jan 9 In Waterbury Case

Librado C. Valesquez, 28, faces a first degree murder charge for the fatal stabbing of Frank Carotenuti, 28, following an argument about Carotenuti's wife Lydia. The Grand Jury indicted him Thursday. Carotenuti was killed after moving from Torrington. detectives said Valesquez trailed the couple from the Spanish American Club and stabbed Carotenuti three times.

Police To Discuss Mayor's Charge In Middletown

In Middletown Connecticut the police union planned a meeting to consider Mayor John S Rath's charge that the police department is inefficient. A national trade magazine had asked if the city had an efficient and honest police force and the mayor said no. He later said the question referred to only the efficiency portion.

Telephone Rate Hike Hearing Set To Resume Jan 2

Hartford report states the public hearing on a 7.8 percent telephone rate hike will resume January 2 before the State Public Utilities Commission. Four Southern New England Telephone officials will be cross examined, including Copeland Fagal and Schlesinger Jr. plus Wraff. Assistant Controller Hansen testified free toll service costs $264,000 yearly and is used mainly for personal calls, with Sen Verriker arguing potential savings since 1958.

Naugatuck Man Plans First Southington Motel Near Route 1

Benjamin Farrar, owner of a Naugatuck motel forced to relocate for Route 8, received a permit from Southington to build a 1 unit motel near Interstate 91 and Meriden Waterbury Road. The 107 foot long frame structure with brick veneer front will be south of the Meriden Waterbury Road and west of the new highway. A Planning and Zoning zone change was approved last week to permit the motel.

Connecticut Five Day Forecast Sees Near Normal Temps

Hartford area temperatures average near normal with little variation over five days Saturday through Wednesday. Normal mean is 28 degrees with highs around 37 and lows near 19 in Hartford. New Haven expects 37 to 22. Bridgeport 37 to 22. Precipitation may total 0.2 to 0.7 inch as snow or rain, with ponding possible by Tuesday.

Naugatuck edged Crosby 56-52 after a seesaw second half with Crosby leading 39-38 at eight minutes left.
