He says this year’s totals will exceed last year by about 17000, with a projected figure near 220000, nearly double 1942. December 20 marked the peak single day with 114519 cancellations, the largest ever. December 15 saw strong stamp and meter sales totaling 1458 in postage, 4830 in metered stamps, and 12 in third-class stamps.

A Santa Claus lookalike trucked the piano from Elkhart Indiana to Boston and then to Naugatuck where Albert Conn’s Music Store collected the instrument and delivered it to the Reich home. Tolland Youth Held On Charge Of Attempted Murder
An 18 year old from Tolland is jailed on a charge of assault with intent to kill after admitting he fired at his farmer sweetheart through her home window Saturday night. Carol Smith, 18, was unharmed. Police also arrested William K. Horn, 18, after an overnight chase across four states. a hunting knife and a 22 rifle were found in his car. Horn claimed he was inspired by a TV program about a jilted suitor. Smith and Horn had dated before graduating Roeckville High School last June and recently spoke in an effort to reconcile.
