Southern New England Telephone predicts a holiday rush with 830000 long distance calls this Christmas and Bell System planning 10 million calls nationwide. The firm will deploy 1080 operators with 43 extra circuits from New York to handle peak demand. Direct dialing is encouraged to cut costs and delays.
The Prospect Planning and Zoning Commission approved Henry Zmyeski's request to resubdivide the Industrial Center on Route 68 Prospect Union City Rd. Two resulting lots were approved while a third lacked required frontage and was rejected.
Beacon Falls Sewer Authority chairman Thadeus Mis announced Area Five residents on Burton Ride Cook Lane Rice Lane Diana Lane and Fairfield Place may connect to the new sewer lines once laterals are available. A permit must be obtained from Sewer Inspector Kevin Swan before laying the lines.
Laurel Ledge School in Beacon Falls announces a January 2 start for altered daily hours from 6:20 a.m. pickups to 3:15 p.m. dismissals. Principal Otto A. Kruger cites ongoing bus problems and winter delays requiring longer routes and revised pick up times for multiple bus runs.
The Board of Directors of Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan Association approved daily compounding of interest for savings accounts and certificates effective January 1, 1973. President Donald G. Brubaker said the system raises dividends across all accounts, with four quarterly payments. Rates stay the same but effective rates rise to 5.47, 6.00, and 6.27 percent for various certificates, with minimums of 2 to 4 dollars and terms of one to two years. Brubaker noted the change aims to encourage thrift and home ownership and that the new rates are the highest allowed by law.

Centers in State Motor Vehicle Bureau locations close 7 30 p.m. today and reopen 8 30 a.m. Tuesday Dec 26. The main 1290 Silas Deane Highway office closes noon Friday Dec 22 and reopens 8 30 a.m. Tuesday Dec 26. Local claim centers in savings and loan banks observe usual local holiday hours. Consolidation completed at 1290 Silas Deane Highway adjacent to Route 191. former HELCO Building at 178 Cumberland Ave. closed.

Connecticut shoppers may pay more for milk next year, says University of Connecticut dairy marketing specialist Dr Stewart Johnson. He cites rising demand for milk products and last summer’s heavy rains causing low yields and poorer quality hay and corn silage, reducing milk production, as factors behind a potential increase of up to one cent per quart.
In Waterbury Circuit Court yesterday Judge Joseph J. Chernauskas disposed of motor vehicle cases. Cyrile A. Fortier, 16, of Millville Ave, faced reckless driving and failure to obey a stop sign charges. Pleas of nolo contendere led to fines of 15 dollars for failure to obey stop sign and 15 dollars for improper lane driving. George M. O'Donnell Jr., 21, Quinn Sr, pled nolo contendere to failure to drive in proper lane and received a fine of 10 dollars. reckless driving was nolled.
