The Rev. Dr Richard Mekler, 88, former pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, died Sunday at Taathern in Rome for the Aged at Southbury. He led the local church from 1918 to 1922. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the Hotel, with the Rev. Dr Behrend Mehrn, pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran, officiating. A Schrader, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran guard and chaplain for the Lutheran Hotel indicate. Friends may call at home tomorrow evening from 7 to 9 o'clock.
Santa Claus returns to the borough Thursday morning for the Nougatuck News-Salem Theater children's party. The event starts at 9 30 in the theater with pupils from second to fifth grades invited, gifts for all attendees, and Santa distributing special gifts to those with debuts. theater owner Ralph Pasha announced shows and urged children to confirm names and addresses for gifts.

Interment followed in St. James Cemetery after a military escort and firing squad honor. The community line of march included the Naugatuck Veterans Council and Marine Corps League.
Warden Carter and the board approved sliding on Park Avenue from Millville Avenue south, Christensen Street, and Brennan Street to Bridge Street. A committee will inspect Glenridge area and other possible sites, reporting at the adjourned meeting on December 20.

A Christmas carol sing sponsored by The News drew about 500 residents to the Morseshoe on the Green. The evening featured Daniel Sweeney and others with Hammond Organ accompaniment by Roy Johnson and colleagues. The Naugatuck Men’s Choral and Wagner quartet provided choral and band support under directors Jesse Bre wis and Albert Smith.
