Postmaster T. Green announced 233000 pieces of outgoing mail were handled at the Naugatuck office in the past week. Cancellations occurred between Monday Dec 12 and yesterday Dec 1. He noted staffing rose by 75 workers and that a further 17 are expected next week to keep pace with the rush.

Nearly 3 000 Naventuck residents attended weekend Christmas events and more programs are planned for the coming week. Saturday saw the fourth annual movie party by NEWS and Salem Playhouse with cartoons and gifts from Santa. The Nunpatuck Junior Women's Club hosted a Christmas dance with 100 attendees at To Fel Elton. Sunday events included 7 000 people at Union City Santa party and 400 at the Union City club gathering at St Mary’s Church. Columbus hosted a Christmas play with 99 children and a tea by Catholic Women. An auxiliary party at Montanari-Rado Post drew a large crowd.
The United Church held its annual Christmas pregraint at the Sunday School with a full congregation. Ralph Tasker substituted for the absent superintendent Harry Lobell who is recovering from surgery at Waterbury Hospital. Rev A Harper Jr led devotions as Harold Simpson's class presented carols and program work was by Ralph Tucker's class.
