A State Health Department survey finds Hartford leading eight Connecticut cities in rat infestation. In Hartford North End 63 of 451 buildings had rats, and within 20 blocks 38 of 121 were infested. The Hill area showed 13 of 1,055 buildings with rats, 1.2 percent. Bridgeport 40 percent, Waterbury 42 percent, Norwalk 12 percent, Stamford 9 percent, New Britain 26 percent, New Haven reported no infestation in examined areas.

Vermont toughens stance over Champlain Lake pollution
Vermont will seek federal intervention in the Lake Champlain dispute with New York. Rheinhold Thieme of the Vermont Water Resources Board plans to tell officials in Boston that Vermont will cooperate in a study of sludge deposits if the federal government orders New York to clean up 1,000 acres. The board had previously charged International Paper Co’s mill at Ticonderoga with polluting 1,600 acres, preventing the lake from achieving a bathing and recreation class. Denning Miller said Vermont will urge action from the federal agency to force cleanup.

Lawyer Pleads Guilty To Embezzlement Case in Bridgeport
Bridgeport attorney Charles Hanken, 34, faced charges he embezzled about $10,000 from a guardian for a minor involved in a personal injury suit arising from a auto accident. The alleged crime happened between June and October 1968. Trial was tentatively set for January 14 before Judge Anthony J. Armentano with a 12 man jury.
