A meeting of the Industrial Recreation Council was held Monday at the YMC A. The Constitution and By Laws were adopted. Registration forms are in the works for follow up. Various committees are forming to advance industrial activities and year‑long programs. The Activities Committee is chaired by John J. Tonyuewien with other members including Walfeud Swan and I. Sones.
Union City man Charies Waltthker was found dead at his home in North Threatont from natural causes. Medical examiners listed death within 24 to 36 hours prior. Edwin Hy Chisran and William Veith are named in the local notices. Funeral services will be held at the Wittazerald Funeral Home and St Marys Church with burial in St James Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home tonight and tomorrow.

Tickets are being distributed in member rooms, with tomorrow the final day to obtain them. A hall committee met Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Raymond J. Erick, co chair of the local victory fund committee, announced subscriptions reached 4274 623 or 783 percent of the quota as of December 15. The drive continues with 14 days left in the month for residents to buy Victory bonds. The campaign remains active despite the official drive ending December 8.
George Fellows moderates a special election in Naugatuck where the Freemen vote on purchasing the Pearson property on Central Avenue for school use. Voters were described as lethargic as fewer than 30 ballots were cast by 2 PM with polls closing at 5. The prevailing opinion favored buying the property for 7500 to straighten borough property records.
The UW Rubber Company Footwear plant, employing thousands mainly from Naugatuck, will close for three days over Christmas. His career included ROTC at Connecticut College and glider-borne actions to hold key positions during critical battles.
A meeting of the Activities Committee of the Ojeda Council Knights of Columbus will be held tonight at 7 o'clock in the rooms in the Neary building. Chairman Anthony Chiuni urges all committee members to attend as several matters related to the council’s large campaign are to be filled over.
The SSth anniversary banquet and celebration of the Polish American Club will be held Sunday January 1 at the club rooms on Bridge Street. A large attendance of members and honorary guests is expected with guest speakers and local officials to be announced. The event is organized by Anthony Pruchnicki and a committee including Henry Zwick Edward Slamewysii Edward Bernski Vietor Ove skis and Michael Kotinoski. Installation of the new offices is planned for December 18 at the Bridge Street club.
In Concord New Hampshire students at Concord High School petition for an extra week of Christmas vacation to work in stores. A student strike on December 19th is threatened if the petition is denied. Superintendent Raymond Danford is speaking to avert the strike.
Congressman Joseph E. Talbot endorses the $20,000 campaign to purchase Cedar Street property once occupied by the McCarthy Funeral Home for a Naugatuck American Legion Post No. 7 home. He praises WWI and WWII veterans and urges community support as letters from Legion leaders and veterans express gratitude and commitment to the drive. Miss Trene L. Squires announces Harold P. Baldwin C Fridolt Carlson Sidney Grossman and James L Linsky are new chamber of commerce directors for three years. The weatherman says the Eastern seaboard including Naugatuck will endure the cold wave for several more days. New England temperatures ran two to eight degrees below normal for mid to late week. Forecasters expect continued rather cold conditions into the weekend with a chances of snow on Wednesday and Thursday and a significant cold snap to follow.
Health Officer Dr. Walter J. Baker reports the first local diphtheria case in a long time, a 25 year old man. He warns residents to take preventive measures as winter could threaten health while state totals show increases in several illnesses including polio.
Adrian W Maher was sworn in as U S district attorney for Connecticut by Federal Judge Carroll C Hincks in New Haven. The ceremony was reported from the Irisn Restaurant at 22 Church Street with details noting a ready menu and the fall season.

The Rev Winfred B Lenpierst rector of St Michaels Episcopal Church has joined Selective Service Board 144 as a member of the reemployment committee succeeding the late Rev Arthur J Lewis. Other members include Herbert Johnson Rev Albert I Taylor Carlton Borden Claude V Badger and William Hy Vining.
