Fire completely gutted the United States transport Dekalb formerly the German raider Prinelle Frederich early today while at anchor in the Hudson River. Lieut. Commander Willetts and the crew were rescued by a tug as fireboats battled the blaze for hours. The Dekalb, built in Bremen in 1904 and 4,812 tons, brought troops here September 5 after internment at Newport News. Origin of the fire is unknown.
The National Association for the Protection of American Rights in Mexico reports 551 Americans killed in Mexico since November 20, 1910. Of these, 428 were civilians and 128 soldiers or sailors, with 167 deaths during the Madero and Huerta regimes and 835 after Carranza took power. Bandits caused 188 deaths. Carranza followers 76.
