Rear Adm. Thomas H. Habbing Jr. USN Ret. died Tuesday at 72. Memorial service scheduled Friday at Stonington Conn. He served on the Navy's first aircraft carrier Langley and commanded Lexington in strikes against Tokyo in 1945. He later led the Potomac River Naval Command before retiring in May 1982.
Connecticut Citizens Action Group urged Gov Meskill to ensure Millstone Point and Haddam Neck reactors meet federal safety rules. Director Toby Moffett criticized Northeast Utilities for late outage reports and alleged mislead advertising and planned equal time on radio and TV to counter ads. Northeast Utilities units include Connecticut Light and Power Hartford Electric Light and Western Massachusetts Electric. Meager Death Gray Maine APT unit: Susan Meager two died from apparent smoke inhalation in apartment fire.

Prospect Eights Drum Corps awarded top honors at the annual Christmas party and awards banquet held at the Fire Department Hall. Michael Doolan won the male Corps Member of the Year Dewey Stotts Memorial Trophy while Dawn Naplelio earned the Roberta Beaudry Memorial Trophy for female member of the year. Stacey O'Brien received a gold medal for perfect attendance and a three year attendance plaque. Gary Chiarella Ellen Breeney received silver medals for drumming attendance. Attendees included Lori LaRosa Pam Huggins Mark Napiello Barbara Paolino and Paula Duguay. Chief Administrator George Sabo Jr. praised the corps as goodwill ambassadors of Prospect. Dorothy Harrow received a bouquet for years of service to the corps.
Outgoing Commerce Secretary Peter G. Peterson told a Greater Hartford Chamber of Commerce reception that trading American machinery and agricultural products for Soviet gas and oil could ease the United States energy deficit. He noted Russia’s need for machinery, potential defense barriers, and said he will be succeeded by Frederick Dent after a Soviet visit.
A hearing is set January 4 in Hartford Probate Court over the will of Edith Russell Woolley of West Hartford. The 89 year old left an $18 million estate with codicils varying since 1967. The appeal challenges the second codicil removing Kingswood Oxford School from the bequest and directing sale proceeds to attorney J Harold Williams.

Connecticut state colleges board grants associate degree holders with guaranteed admission to any state four year college upon president’s recommendation. Policy also liberalizes tuition refunds up to seventh week, and refunds housing and board fees pro rata. Transfer policy to be reviewed by end of 1975.
Ed Clinch a Peoria park district foreman has received annual Christmas coconuts since 196? with ambulance, helicopter, or parachute deliveries. This year Mike Milin new Peoria County state’s attorney delivered it to Clinch’s home after an advance alert to media.
Hartford reports Sen Joseph Lieberman spent about 38162 on his bid for re election this year. Campaign figures filed with the secretary of state show a 11218 deficit from his successful run for a second term. Lieberman 9 Democrat reported 24941 in contributions with races against Clarence Whitney for the 11th District and Edward L Martus for the Democratic nomination.
Hartford Connecticut official says the new auto insurance law provisions have been translated into Spanish to reach Spanish speaking communities. Arrangements with Community Affairs Commissioner Ruben Figueroa to distribute the bilingual literature statewide. The service funded by Connecticut's insurance industry. The law takes effect January 1. Jackie marries Onassis on October 20, 1968.
Connecticut state college system faces possible disciplinary action for buying term papers from Papers Inc. under a court order to cease production. Records show students from all four state colleges purchased papers, violating rules against plagiarism. Attorney General Killian filed suit, Judge Saden issued a temporary injunction, and the college president warns graduates may also be disciplined.
