In Middletown Connecticut a 48 year old man Robert Shultz faced an aggravated assault charge after barricading himself in his parents Wilcox Road home for 18 hours following February 10. Police surrounded the residence but did not force entry until he surrendered. Shultz was arraigned November 12 and granted a continuance to today.
About 4 000 residents in Berlin and Newington faced a 10 hour blackout after a fire and short circuit at the East New Britain substation. 13 000 families lost power. by 6 p.m. ~9 000 were restored via alternate supplies, with 4 000 awaiting full return after midnight. Hospitals, police, and businesses were affected. emergency generators were used where needed.
A Episcopal Church Foundation survey finds 63 percent of Northeastern laymen favor parish clergy involvement in civil rights, 70 percent oppose direct political action, and 61 percent support women’s ordination. National averages 53 percent civil rights involvement and 50-50 on ordination. Northeast leads in social action.
