Combined Protestant churches will present Handel’s The Messiah tomorrow afternoon under the direction of Josue F. Davis. The event features soloists and choirs from multiple congregations, with a guest organ recital and an offertory to aid charitable causes.

THO report for November by Superintendent Harold FR Chittenden shows 27 full days lost for teachers across the x school system and eight half days. Crusader Post No. 186 VFW of Naugatuck passes a resolution denouncing State Tax Commissioner Walsh for restricting the $1,000 property tax exemption to veterans with Connecticut residence upon entry. The post aims to lobby General Assembly and push a bill through a special session to end the discrimination. The measure calls for publication and broad publicity to inform members and the public.
Conrad Rohs was reelected president of the Men’s Brotherhood at Salem Lutheran Church during the annual meeting in the church hall. Officers include Almer Sachson vice president John Ragnor Anderson recording secretary Clayton Siequist financial secretary Carl Thompson treasurer Hilding Olson Robert Anderson reelected mudi tors. About 30 members and guests attended a turkey supper at 6:30 p.m. Evangeline Circle hosted, with motion pictures by Henry Johnson and Ernest Englund. After a short intermission a Christmas carol service was led by pianist Herbert Goblin and devotions read by Rev. William Frenchburg. The business meeting, led by Rohs, featured yearly reports by Johnson Thompson and Olson. The Boys Work committee reported about 25 players in baseball and basketball, with 29 visitors present and two new members Miles Berry and son Dean Berry. Total shelter offering was $22. Evangeline Circle members served in time room and kitchen. guest speaker Mrs. John Henry shared experiences and impersonations.
A large delegation from Naugatuck Local 5 United Rubber Workers of America led by President George Froehlich traveled to Ansonia yesterday afternoon for a two hour ticketing demonstration at Hershey Metal Products Co. More than 200 CIO members statewide supported the striking plant employee. Picketing was orderly with no violence or incidents.
A watermelon from Atlanta, Georgia was chosen as a Christmas delicacy for Governor McConaughy. The melon has been stored at 74 degrees in a secured locker since it arrived, and will be presented on Christmas Eve.
Hospital officials report multiple patients at Waterbury and St Marys hospitals in varying conditions. Dr Henry H Gorton, former Republican Town Committee chairman, is improved. Charles Sestak fractured leg on Main Street is resting comfortably. Anthony Skrobecky at St Marys is in poor condition and on the danger list. Carl Anderson at Waterbury hospital is reported as good. John Schmuck and Thomas Parks at Waterbury hospital are resting comfortably. Mrs Mary St John after surgery is in good condition. Joseph Thomas at Waterbury hospital and William Krodel at Grace Hospital New Haven are listed as in good condition.
London Dec 13 The Big Four foreign ministers postponed their Saturday session to study a crisis risking conference collapse. Secretary of State Marshall and Soviet Foreign Minister Molotov will hold a private luncheon today with Vishinsky and Zarubin present. The talks follow a hectic conference day amid deadlock over the German question and slim chances of a Soviet compromise.
About 3000 children gathered on the Green to greet Santa Claus as he arrived on a Naugatirek fire engine. He handed out gifts to 4061 children, aided by borough volunteers and the Navguinek Chamber of Commerce. Earlier, U. & Rubber Gn Girls presented Christmas carols at Congregational Church. Local 49 United Rubber Workers will meet Sunday at 2 pm to report on the State CIO convention, with steward meetings at 4:30 pm under President Froehigh.
At St Mary’s hospital Waterbury on December 12 a son was born to Mr and Mrs George T Clark their first child. The baby is grandchild of Mr and Mrs Frank Brennan and Mrs Wilson Clark. Mrs Clark was formerly Theresy Brennan.
George Martin, 21, of 26 Prospect Street, received 80 days in the New Haven County jail for breach of the peace. Judge Thomes Neary imposed the sentence in borough court this morning after Martin was arrested yesterday at his place of employment by Detective Sgt. Joseph McCarthy of Waterbury police under a warrant sworn by Frank Lacresius of 65 Brennan Street for an altercation Saturday. Martin pleaded innocent in court.
The Sogony-Vacuum Oil Co plans a wholesale price increase of nine tenths of a cent, effective Monday, signaling other companies may follow. Officials differ on whether dealers will pass the hike to motorists, amid uncertainty over milk prices and regional demand.
Monday is the final day to enter the Christmas doorway decorating contest hosted by the Naugatuck Chamber of Commerce. Entries must be sent to Mrs George W Carroll at Plessant Avenue before the deadline. The event will judge daytime or evening displays with out of town judges and prizes from 5 to 15 dollars.
Raymond Hotchkiss was reelected president of Local 445 AFL of L Musicians union at its annual meeting. Harris Winslow was reelected secretary and Edward Grimth was elected treasurer. The union discussed advancing borough music and noted a large rise in membership with nearly 100 new local musicians.
Washington Representative Fred Hartley, co author of Taft Hartley, seeks inflationary measures under anti trust provisions. A New Jersey Republican endorses a bill to curb James Petrillo from banning musical recordings.
