Irish republicans attacked British troops near Camlough and other sites as Cork city burned in a widespread blaze. Black and tan police were accused of starting the fires amid ambushes and extensive SRO actions. civilians fled, injuries and deaths were reported, with Dublin fire crews arriving as troops controlled the scene.
British troops and police guarded Cork as central streets burned in a fierce outbreak. Martial law and curfew kept order after looting, arson, and gunfire left hundreds homeless. Reports say 100 buildings damaged, including the market and library, with many casualties and disruptions across the city.

Two prisoners were captured and the houses burned. A constable was killed and three others wounded in an ambush near Idake, County Longford. Local sentiment blamed Black and Tans for arson and recklessness as reports said the government planned to disband the auxiliary police.
Raymond R. Healey former vice-president of the United States bank in Hartford surrendered to police after disappearing last Thursday and facing an $8,000 shortage. The case was continued Saturday without a hearing under bonds of $5,000 provided by Jr. H. Holmes of New Britain. Healey appeared with counsel George W. Ilett of New Britain.

Several prisoners including Michael Rizzo and Americo Ginaccla faced questions over murder convictions amid newly reviewed affidavits and questions of guilt.
President Wilson issued a national appeal for funds to relieve starving children in central and eastern Europe. He announced he would sponsor twenty children as temporary wards, urging a concerted effort by eight major organizations to raise funds and provide personnel and machinery for distribution. Ten dollars buys one child's life, with a goal of $200 for twenty wards.
Waterbury December 13 Samuel Cohen, a local automobile operator, was held for superior court on the charge of automobile homicide after the machine he drove struck and fatally injured George Panneton, a longtime Waterbury resident, in Exchange Place. Coroner John T. Monzani led the inquiry amid a broader probe of six additional automobile fatalities.
Meriden police went to Oak Haven today after Alexander Newman and Raymond C. Valentine were arrested there following the recovery in their possession of 8000 to 4000 dollars worth of cloth stolen from local tailor Joseph Grenon. Practically all the cloth has been retained and identified by Grenon.
Three investigations opened after a one man safety street car ran away down a long hill striking a steel pole. Four people died instantly and two more expired in hospital. Officials reported a broken brake pin rendered brakes useless.
Vera Cruz Mexico December 13 The governor of Guerrero State appealed to the federal government to send troops to prevent a possible Bolsheviki uprising reported from Campeche today.
Washington reports the immigration bill passed the House by 298 to 41. The measure suspends immigration for one year with exceptions for students and certain relatives, plus six months for Canadian and Mexican farm workers. It now goes to the Senate for likely opposition.
Secretary of the Navy Daniels voiced strong opposition to a proposal for the United States Great Britain and Japan to suspend naval construction for five years. He warned it would mark a return to alliances that sparked the world war and urged continued buildup until the nation joins the League of Nations or similar world body. Boston December 13 thousands of textile mill operatives in New England were notified of wage reductions. Most cuts show 22 1 2 percent with a conference of mill heads from New England and New York last week having suggested the figure. Union leaders say the cut makes a living wage unattainable for American textile workers.
In Lawrence Massachusetts on December 13 Arlington and Pacific mills said wage reductions would take effect December 20. Similar cuts were expected from Everett and Stevens mills. While the exact amount was not stated, it was presumed to be about 2 1 2 percent following a textile mill heads conference in Boston last week.
Washington December 13 The Interstate Commerce Commission suspended indefinitely the preferential rates to ocean ports under Section 28 of the Merchant Marine Act at the request of the United States Shipping Board. The shipping board had previously requested suspensions of these rates.
Twelve persons were injured this morning in a collision of tramway cars at Twenty third and Larimer streets in Denver Colorado. Motorman A J Wood sustained a broken leg and internal injuries.
Geneva December 13. Roumania introduced a resolution at the League of Nations assembly proposing an international army and police force, with international control of armaments and enforcement mechanisms.
