More than 1000 area veterans discharged up to November 30 and 274 registrants are noted. The report includes numerous names such as Joseph P. Dureeth Travletolin Dh and Stephen W. Bolte among others, with county or district references and an attached tally line of 82 at the end.
Youth groups from the Y society attended the State General Assembly. Representatives included Jon a Kang Scott Conavar Themis Wath and Rob ert Dones as an alternate. Florence Conover Khanor Oemgke Lek Smit spoke for their groups. The local groups have participated in the event.
Edward Wilcox named chairman of the post member team for the $20,000 Naugatuck American Legion Post No. 17 drive. Co chairmen are Thomas Gunnoud and Edward Gerber. A large campaign kicks off with house to house canvassing after Jan 3 1946 and the Legion rooms in Hopton Block open weekday evenings for fundraising.
Alfred J. Borne 70 of 63 Brebe street died in Waterbury hospital after a brief illness. He was born June 21, 1875 in England and came to the U.S. about 51 years ago. A longtime member of the Congregational church and Centennial Lodge I O C, he is survived by his wife Minnie Warner Borne, daughters Gladys Shorrow and Mrs. William Borowy, a granddaughter Doris Borowy, and a U S Naval Reserve member stationed in Washington. Funeral Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Congregational church. Grove cemetery burial. Friends may call Thursday evening at Alderson Funeral Home.
C B Pall and J Reott Brown announce reorganizations at United States Rubber Company Naugatuck Chemical Division. New foremen and transfers shift duties across Capax Lotol and Sulfuric Acid departments with additions to Maintenance and Process Engineering groups.
President Truman forms a fact finding board to probe the General Motors auto strike. He names Judge Walter Stacy Lloyd Garrison and Milton Eisenhower as members and expects cooperation from both labor and management. The move aims at easing labor disputes and reaching a settlement.
Nationtuck Camp No. 1 Woodmen of the World will hold officer elections Thursday night in Goodyear Hall. Delegates who attended the state convention in Albany will report, chaired by Frank Manano. District manager John T. Loyer is a state delegate to the national convention planned for February in Jacksonville, Florida.
Two men, William Fischers of 231 Quinn Street and Edward J. Dutt of Crest Street, Middlebury, escaped serious injury when their cars collided at the Quinn Chestnut street intersection yesterday morning. Police Chief John J. Gormley reported both vehicles were badly damaged and no arrests were made.
Four local industries besides Naugatuck Glass Co will issue Christmas bonuses or cash gifts this year. About 1,100 Bristol Co employees on the payroll by Nov 30 will receive a bonus equal to 40 hours pay. John M Russell Manufacturing Co will give cash presents to 10 employees and 106 workers at T F Butterfield Inc will get about a week’s salary. Peter Paul Inc will also pay a Christmas bonus. Smaller establishments plan Yuletide cash gifts.
The board of education plans a vote at the next meeting on whether to continue operating the Naugatuck Day Nursery. Superintendent Harold E. Chittenden says the current authorization expires December 1 and extra funding from Merchants Bureau may be needed. Hartford also reports Salvatore J. Fazio of Bridgeport named Fairfield county field agent for the Connecticut Prison Association from 125 applicants.
The Naugatuck Water Co thermometer, among the state’s most accurate, recorded seven above zero for the season during the night. The prior low was December 2 with a similar reading at 7:20 this morning. Snow and ice compounded the bitter cold as pedestrians and motorists struggled with frosty conditions. Outlying thermometers may reach zero tonight, and the cold wave is expected to continue.
William Ploski was nominated and elected to the chairmanship of the Naugatuck Young Republican Club at a meeting in Pythian Hall. He is a longtime GOP figure in Naugatuck. Harold Lewis was named first vice chairman and Helen Muni second vice, with William Picknitis as third vice, Harald Sutory secretary, Everett Donovan treasurer, and Howard Sage publicity director.
Deeds filed with Town Clerk Raymond J. St. John show two houses and lots on North Handiey Street sold by Naugatuck Development Co. Inc. One property went to Earl and Mary Hankey and the other to Anthony and Mary Marciszonel.

Corporal Joan A. Fergusson Jr of Beacon Falls Connecticut trains as a student at Biarritz American University in France while serving with the 542nd Field Artillery Battalion of the 42nd Rainbow Division. He aims to pursue journalism after military service and previously worked as a Petini correspondent for the Naugatuck Daily News.
C Fridell Carlson president of the Naugatuck Merchants' Bureau announced a three day New Year holiday closure adopted by 27 store heads with 5 opposing votes. Stores will close Saturday December 29 and reopen Wednesday January 1. Carlson said the plan aids workers and benefits customers during holiday shopping.
Initial medical bulletin says General Patton is resting comfortably and cheered by his wife and aides, but there is no significant improvement in the paralysis. Doctors report his condition remains grave with no further progress noted.
Mrs Tham ax McGuire of Beacon Falls sold a large 30 foot Christmas tree to the city of New Haven for the Green to serve as the municipal Christmas tree. The tree will be decorated with lights and fixtures and described as one of the largest on her property.
