Valley Teachers organize their annual meeting in Beacon Falls with plans for a second annual session led by Vilby Mehr rt aueuthon. The meeting includes committee appointments, school board involvement, and calendar arrangements for December events and holiday activities across local districts.
Central Avenue School Parent-Teacher Association elected temporary chairman Mrs Frank D Peaslee and temporary secretary Mrs RB Forest Easterbrooks at a recent meeting. Dr Paul Eliott presided and guest speaker Mrs Lea M Kimball outlined PTA duties. Fathers were invited to participate and room parents were proposed. Numerous parents and teachers joined in nominating grade representatives and committee members for ongoing planning.
The Board of Education will hear a report on elementary achievement tests conducted in the borough. Superintendent Harald i Chittenden will discuss test results, transportation issues, driver safety training, and forthcoming changes to schedules. He will note the Culver Training program expansion and a state law requiring gate driving in public schools, with financials for the first nine months and a building room move announced.
More than 40 visiting clergymen attended the funeral of Mrs Ellen M Donaher of 50 City Hill Street. A solemn requiem Mass at St Marys Church was conducted by Rev James F Donaher with a large visiting clergy turnout and numerous local priests assisting. The service included prayers in English and vocal solos, with a lengthy roster of visiting and local clergymen and representatives from the Altar Society. Committal at the grave was led by Rev Richard Morrissey and involved additional clergy.
The French government believes Feussla miny will breach its military and friendship pact with France as relations rapidly deteriorate. France reports Russia has not responded to its rebuff, and refuses to reconsider a Soviet note breaking off trade relations.
Rome faced a general strike involving about half a million workers as Communist unions halted traffic and commerce. Police clashed with protesters on Corso Umberto, dozens of strikers were arrested and several injured while Rome and 303 nearby cities remained largely shut down. Strong police presence protected government offices as deputies clashed with interior minister Mario Scelba’s order to maintain order.
United States Rubber company announces a new benefit for management employees. Those with 15 years of service will receive three weeks of paid vacation next summer for service as of January 1, 1948, while other management staff maintain two weeks after any year of service. Hourly workers gain two weeks after five years, one week otherwise. A local official says this marks the first step in a long-range plan with further details to follow.
The final Labor Institute session of the year will be held tonight at o o'clock in the Town Hall Court Room. Rev. Stanley Hratillo, director, will speak on The Right of the Working Man to Organize and Have Working Men An Obligation to Join a Union. Attorney William Bennett of Ansonia discusses the Taft Hartley Law with Q&A. Miss Mary Louise Martin continues her public speaking course, and sessions will resume early next year.
Raymond K. Foley acting principal of Naugatuck High School will attend the New England Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools annual meeting in the Statler Hotel Boston as the school’s delegate. The club discusses the Army plan for universal military training.

Legion Post Christmas bazaar opens tonight at the Legion home on Cedar Street with hours 7:30 to 11. A children’s night is planned tonight and Saturday night, featuring booths selling aluminum ware toys stuffed mats fancy work and food items. Refreshments served after the board party. A cool prize is awarded each evening. Co chairs George B. Lewis and Larry Sani head the array with help from Edward Wilcox Mrs Wilcox Michael Norris Mel Norris Stratton Krabs Horton Noble John Southworth Charles Clark and Joseph Raytkich.
A light snowstorm fell seven hours in Naugatuck leaving about one and a half inches on the ground. The Naugatuck Water Co reports nineteen inches of precipitation with a low of 22 and a high of 39 degrees in the past 24 hours. No accidents were reported though motorists left cars on downtown streets and a fire truck had trouble climbing Carrol Street. The weather is warming and drivers are urged to exercise caution after nightfall. Governor McConaughy reappointed Rainnald J. Zielingler as Workmen's Compensation commissioner for the Fourth District for a five year term.
Santa Claus will hand out gifts to Naugatuck children tomorrow evening at about 6 o clock on the Congregational church steps. The event, sponsored by Navigatuck Chambers of Commerce, features Kenneth E. Johnson as master of ceremonies and Barbara M. Stone directing 39 voices of the U S Girls club under Mrs Stone. Division Street will close at 6 45 to allow space for the crowd with Boy Scouts aiding in orderly lines and the fire department escorting Santa to the facilities per Fire Chief John J Sheridan.
