Union City leaders back a new school program amid debate on Cross Street and Prospect Street facilities. The town plans a Man of the Year award via an anonymous committee of residents and Exchange Club members as details unfold.
Smith was elected chairman of the bond indebted executive affiar of the company January 1. Herbert Be Saath became president and chairman of the executive committee. Harry Humphreys named vice president and chair of the trainee committee. Arthur Sutnenp elected vice president and chairman of the business committee. Macnurl M Kolton elected treasurer.
The Naugatuck Men’s Chorus plans a Friday night concert at the high school auditorium with a final rehearsal earlier in the evening. Director Jessa Divig announces the first program of the season for 8 15 PM featuring cellist Roy H. Johnson and guest musicians.
The Naugatuekk Chamber of Commerce dinner and the first showing of Inside Naugatuek are sold out for tonight. Melvin Engel reports full reservations. tickets for the Salem Theater premiere exhausted. A 15 minute WATR broadcast from 5 to 9 16 will interview producers and locals at the Salem. Dinner at 6 46 precedes the 8 15 film with narration by Scoutten and Rev. Saper. The movie repeats Saturday morning for children.
Naugiuel Crump age 81 greets Woodmen officers as they elect leaders tonight. The 27th annual Christmas party is set with Santa Claus distributing gifts after a Sunday gathering at 7 p m. Community groups announce the event and note a focus on children’s welfare.

Hartford December 9 UP The Democrats won the first round in a legal fight to have the November election results certified Superior Court Judge Ingishaa modified a prior injunction restricting inspection of impounded voting machines The modified order blocks inspection even by canvassers and holds until the court resolves the Board of Canvassers authority Round two in the suit comes up tomorrow as Democrats seek a writ of mandamus requiring certification by midnight or explanation of delay.
Brotherhood elects Garl W. Thompson president at annual Salem Lutheran Church gathering succeeding Conrad Roche. Officers named include Aretha Parsons as vice president, For bert Bohiin treasurer, Wilma Peterson secretary, Clayton Sloquist financial secretary, Hilding Olson and Robert Anderson auditors. Rev Willard Seper of Congregational Church spoke on The Power of Minor Things. Next meeting set for January 21 with a social hour.
A tractor truck carrying 45 drums of peanut oil exploded after crashing into a tree and pole on Route 10 Cheshire. Driver Anthony Platanits of Springfield Maine suffered severe burns, jumped from the cab, rolled to extinguish flames, and was taken to St. Maury's Hospital Waterbury in serious condition. The blast damaged about 300 telephones and disabled home electricity and telephone services.
J P Belletti, landscape gardener, removes five dead trees on North Malin Street in World War I Memorial Park near the police booth. Warden Harry L Carter says the trees were ordered removed by Warden Charles D Curtiss due to decay and hazard to pedestrians and motorists.
Topographical maps for a federate rental housing project are being prepared by the rogal housing group under chairman T. Hex Behrman. Maps should be ready in three weeks as the authority meets to discuss finances and applicant income documentation.
Naugatuck Veterans Council will hold a meeting Tuesday evening December 28 in the Borough court room Town Hall to dedicate Vets Field. A report on possible monuments in borough cemeteries will be heard by co chairmen George B. Lewis and Jack Ashmore. wreaths will be placed on Civil War World War I and World War II monuments this week under chairman Henry Racki with assistance from local veterans post commanders.

In Cairo the Moklem Brotherhood headquarters raid prompts manhunt for 24 staff. In Nanking Communist raiders disrupt Nationalist supply lines north of the capital. In Costa Rica the National Union leads in elections drafting a new constitution. Robert Strippin is summoned to testify in New York before a federal grand jury on Communism and spying.

Betty Louise Sunblade age 3 daughter of Mr and Mrs James Sunblade of 276 North Moodley Street had her tonsils removed today at St. Marys hospital Waterbury. Lawrence Mawitk of 128 German Street is a medical patient at St. Marys hospital Waterbury. Improvement is reported today in the condition of Eugene Faith of 50 Bridge Street who suffered a fractured left arm in an accident at the U S Rubber Co footwear plant Tuesday night. He is a patient at Waterbury hospital.
