Local merchants and officials discuss a hosiery shortage affecting the Niupgntuets Merelanty area. They cite supply cuts and price rises while noting temporary relief may come as August shipments arrive and manufacturers pivot to nylon and silk products.
Secretary of State James Byrnes told the Senate foreign affairs committee that Patrick Hurley’s allegations against American diplomats have no basis. He said records fail to substantiate the charges. The Naugatuck Chamber of Commerce mails primary ballots to members for four director seats expiring this year. Ballots must be returned by 7 pm December 10. Expiring terms listed: Harold Baldwin Clarence Jones Harold Perry and Philip Rice.
Seaman Genevieve S. Dairon of 23 North Circle Beacon Falls has received an honorable discharge in New York City and returned home after a year in the WAVES. She served as secretary for lieutenants in the Special Devices Division and worked in the Radar Department and Amira Penn offices. She plans to pursue further education after returning to civilian life.

Hartford County Farm Bureau elects L Lee Rand of Windsor as president with Joseph Pero Manchester and Mrs Henry Jona gon of South Windsor as vice presidents Oliver W Thompson Avon as secretary and Henry Ju comb East Windsor as treasurer.

Staf f Sergeant Machinies, after 57 months in the U S Army, receives a honorable discharge and returns to civilian life. He served from March 1942 in camps including Camp Blanding Fort Moultrie and Camp Gordon. overseas with the 496th MP Battalion and 25th Infantry Division, earned multiple decorations and was to return home via the Philippines and Japan. He and his wife Miss Nellis Fadia reside with his parents in Waterbury after leaving Navy service.

Simon C Yikulavish also known as Simon Youle 78 of 78 South Main Street died at home after a long illness. He was a native of Lithuania resident in the United States for many years and worked as a miner at U S Rubyber Co. He belonged to the St George Lithuanian Society of Naugatuck. Survived by wife Agatha four sons Brodie J John J Albey Edward and daughter Julian Wilkulavich three sisters Mrs AUshausky Mrs Grincunas and Mrs Yakamvich. Funeral from Buckmiller Funeral Home 22 Park Place to St Francis Church for a high Mass at 9 oclock Burial in St James Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday 7 to 10 p m and Sunday 2 to 10 p m.

A car fire on Park Avenue yesterday afternoon near 4 40 o clock was put out by the Naugatuck Fire Department. The vehicle owned by Stanley Kaczkowski of 43 Deering Jane suffered damage to nine wires and the hood, per Chief John J. Sheridan’s report. Parsquale Vigne of Bridgeport named assistant attorney general in charge of legal matters for the State Liquor Control Commission.
