American Church Women Help Train Congolese Housewives
An education institute by Protestant missions in the Congo trains Congolese men in public health education agriculture mechanics and business and invites their wives to study home economics. The Woman's Division of the Methodist Church pledges up to 1 million dollars to fund female courses with additional support possible from a National Council of Churches affiliate. The program aims to lift women through basic homemaking skills and light economic burdens, expanding schools across the Congo with a goal of 150 American teachers and a 28 million dollar five-year budget.
