Noble Begins Soot Tests In Borough

Glenn A. Noble of Prospect was appointed by the Borough Board to study the soot problem in Naugatuck. He will collect air samples at multiple points along the river and four company sites, using 20 to 25 mechanical samplers daily. Noble, an electrical engineering-trained consultant, will assess results and draw conclusions once enough data is gathered. The study runs seven days a week. duration will depend on findings.

Union City Barber Announces Price Increase

Union City barber Frank Grabowski announced new prices for Union City and Nanugatuck shops. Weekday haircuts rise to 1.95 dollars, Saturdays and holidays to 2.25, shaves to 0.65, with Nanugatuck setting daily haircut at 1.25 and shave at 0.15. A misprint in the original release was noted.

Elks To Honor Late Members Tomorrow

The Ama Memorial Service of the Sky Lodge will be held in the Lodge rooms at 3 p.m. tomorrow. A committee under Writer by Hughes prepared the program. Cuban airliner crash near Bermuda worse than feared

A Cuban four engine airliner of the Cuban Aviation Company, affiliated with Pan American, crashed two miles offshore near Bermuda while en route Madrid to Havana. Fifty one aboard included 33 passengers and eight crew, with only six survivors reported as rescue units from British naval and air forces reached the scene. The Dublin form of the crash stated the pilot attempted a forced landing two miles offshore before sinking. The company will not release passenger names until rescue operations conclude. The aircraft was due to arrive in Havana at 9 a.m. EST. Milk price in Connuc-linn to drop after state order.

Girl Scout Drive Nets Only 885 in Naugatuck

Estelle McDonough reports the Naugatuck District of Girl Scouts raised 885 dollars in November toward a 1500 dollar goal. A total of 2525 fundraising letters went to residents of Naugatuck and Beacon Falls. Contributions may still be sent to John Darby, treasurer, at Naugatuck National Bank.

Couple Fined In Court Today On Morals Charge

Leonardo Rios and Mary Costello were convicted of fornication in Borough Court with guilty pleas. Rios, a married man, fined 100 dollars and 60 days in New Haven County Jail with 30 days to serve and one year parole. Costello fined 100 dollars and 60 days suspended with one year parole. An additional non support charge was dismissed due to jurisdiction and language issues. Also in court were Mingrone charged 10 dollar bond, Smith charged with intoxication, Monahan given three days jail with suspension, and Duquette fined 100 dollars for drunken driving.

Santa's Home To Be Placed On The Green In Christmas Village

Santa's Home will be installed on The Green today announced by Donnie Minicucci of the Lions Club sponsor. The trailer will be moved this afternoon and decoration will begin. Santa will arrive by sleigh next Saturday and distribute candy to children before Christmas Village opens Sunday. The program is free with gifts funded by merchants and individuals. Prospect Custody Hearing Adjourned Until Tuesday

Borough presents second witness in Prospect St condemnation

In Waterbury two appraisers testified in the Prospect Street School condemnation case. Theodore Carroll valued the Zwick and Bennett properties higher than J. Derby Eagles Club Raided Three Slot Machines Found

Elderly Woman Attacked by Two Masked Intruders

A Waterbury woman remained hospitalized with scalp cuts and bruises after two masked men forced entry to her Mill Street apartment. Bridgeport Fire Chief Fatally Injured At Blaze

Fire Chief Martin Hayden, 69, died in Bridgeport Hospital from injuries sustained while battling a pre dawn blaze in condemned tenement buildings. Several families reportedly unharmed as crews fought the fire in a block condemned by the Fire Department and Board of Health two years earlier. Hayden had led Bridgeport Fire Department for nearly four years.

Rabtoy's Condition Still Critical
