Borough residents are invited to attend the annual Memorial Service at Naugatuck Lodge of Elks at 3 o’clock tomorrow afternoon in the Elks rooms on Church Street. Exalted Ruler Algird Kazemetag and officers will take part with the Rev. Willard Sonor delivering the invocation. George F. Grasser will give the eulogy, followed by a trumpet solo. Several memorial selections will be sung by the Waterbury Mendelssohn Male Chorus. The list of Elks who died includes Frederick Zonino, Charles Meyers, Charles Dunning, G Lester Wigglesworth, Martin Gatrick, Anthony Lagunn and Joseph Freeman.

Durham officials report a fire at the Durham Manufacturing Company plant causing about 75000 in damage. The blaze, likely started by an explosion, destroyed most wooden structures while two brick buildings remained intact. Sixty firefighters battled two hours and a half, drawing water from a nearby pond and storage tank. One firefighter, Henry Burton, suffered minor burns. The plant employed about 60 people making Meta specialties.

Frederick S. Chase 85 industrialist and benefactor of Waterbury died last night at Wytebury Hospital after a brief illness. He had been hospitalized since Nov 28 after a heart attack on Thanksgiving Day. Retired president of the Chase Brass and Copper Co, he lived at Chesham Farm Mid Mehury. Funeral services set for Monday at St. Johns Episcopal Church.
