Drug Addiction Arrests Highlight Youthful, White Suspects
Reported figures show 407 sellers arrested were young white males. Of 1996 drug possession arrests, 1,491 were white and 482 black with many aged 21 or under. Bridgeport led sales arrests with 61, Hartford 43, Norwalk 25, Stamford 21, New Haven 17. New Haven led possession arrests with 404, followed by Bridgeport 201 and Hartford 199. All told 9,907 known narcotics users were arrested in 5,647 crimes. Health Dept noted 2,916 narcotics cases, including 1,815 new ones, with five physicians and 13 nurses investigated for addiction. Adult probation handled 1,253 cases, a 127 percent rise. More than half the offenders came from broken homes or nonreligious backgrounds. 72 percent had prior police records. about half were Connecticut natives with average schooling around 10 years.

Caretaker found in Norfolk pond after missing search
The body of Thomas Alexander Keiller Sr., 68, of Norfolk, was found beneath the ice of a small pond by state police and scuba divers. He had been a caretaker at two Norfolk estates for 38 years and had been reported missing Wednesday afternoon. The ice was two inches thick. his body was found about 10 feet under water, 40 feet from shore.

Americans to be released at Panmunjom
