Naugatuck Glass Co broadens its expansion drive with office enlargements. The Satwatick Glass Co ties into the overall postwar activity, with major work in the Amamtaetrine area nearing completion. The building’s exterior shows remodeling while interior plans for new construction advance.
Commander Caston J. Adama of Tha Vaturans of Morehen Wars stated no Pearl Harbor Day tribute will be held Friday at the Veterans Home on Tubber Avenue. More than 40 World War II veterans are expected to attend the initiation, with a charter roll call beginning at 1. A toast, refreshments, and the 7th anniversary of the Nangotyek Rest, Vetayung at Fourun Wars will be observed.
The Naugatuck Rotary club hosts its annual Ladies Night at St Michael's Parish House tomorrow at 7 p.m. Dr James McConaughy is listed as speaker. the event is described as a standout Rotary activity with members urged to attend.
Dorothy Petticbone of Kittery formerly lived in Naugatuck and was badly injured when a woman driver struck her on her way home from a birthday celebration. She suffered multiple fractures including both pelvis bones, a broken ankle, and other serious injuries. Petticbone spent days in the hospital and is slowly recovering. Gerald Corkins of Railroad Avenue is named in the local note.
The largest American Legion post 17 class will be initiated Wednesday evening at the Legion rooms in Pythian hall. The Pearl Harbor class includes Joaquin Travares Salvatore Rubino Daniel J Lammano Joseph R Madden Andrew Wargo and many others with an entertainment and plans for a Legion home to follow.
Firemen were called to an overheated stove at the home of Raymond Melbourne, 86 Melbourne Court, at 11:50 AM. Chief John J. Sheridan reported the still alarm showed no damage.
About 300 colleagues and friends gathered at the Industrial Relations Building to bid farewell to Harold Barrett, departing to become general superintendent at the Woonsocket Plant. The event ran 3 to 7 pm with refreshments while scrapbook gifts, a purse, and speeches highlighted the afternoon.
Stephen Knapik Sr campaign manager for Joseph P Kenishea harshly defended his candidate in the Local 45 United Rubber Workers election to be held Wednesday. He cited past treasury balance and War Bonds investments as achievements and questioned the current administration under George Froen lich. He noted pension liberalization, military member funds, and gifts to armed forces members, contrasting with the present regime.
Carroll B. Hall has been appointed Chemical Production Superintendent at the Naugatuck Chemical Division of United States Rubber. Thomas F. Lynch will assist. Hall joins from the Joliet Kankakee Ordnance plant where he was production superintendent after a Boston University chemistry degree.
Mrs. Mary E. Johnson Wright widow of Warren C. Wright died Monday in Naugatuck after a long residence there. Born Jan 4 1860 in Bantam she spent most of her life in this borough. Surviving are nephew Dr Albert R. Lamb of New York City a niece Miss Betty C. Lamb Pine Orchard and several cousins. Funeral services set for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Alderson Funeral Home 20 Meadow St burial in Hillside Cemetery with Christian Science service read by Alfoud Blakes-Jee.
The Army troop ship Henry Ward Betcher, carrying 541 GIs from Europe, lost its propeller and is en route to Norfolk for repairs. An Army tug is assisting. troops will halt for two to three days in Kornside before continuing.
Southern New England is forecast for a second storm in five days as a Gulf of Mexico system heads north. The Weather Bureau warned ships and residents of high winds and several inches of snow, with deeper accumulations possible if the storm curves south of Nantucket.
The Christmas Seal drive by the Naugatuck chapter of the American Red Cross has raised $900 to date. Co chairs Mrs. Alvert W. Holmberg and Mrs. Irving Cutting report $40 from Beacon Falls and urge residents to buy seals now. They hope to surpass last year's $2,358.65 total.

Water service was shut off briefly this morning in Church Street stores area after a break in a lead joint of the mush water main. About 20 to 30 minutes passed as William Moody and Philip Walker of the Naugatuck Water Co located the leak after three holes were dug. Pumps were installed, the pipe packed, and a special clamp fixed. Water returned, area pumped out, and progress resumed.
Frank Hayden a Local 45 member of United Rubber Workers says he backs President George Froehlich for the Local 45 presidency. Hayden rejected support for rival Joseph Wenitshe group and pledged 100 percent backing. Campaign manager John Butler predicts a large margin for Froehlich, who cites his two year record and optimistic outlook for a return to office.
A Woonsocket Rhode Island man, Alfred Brennan, was killed in Stafford Springs Connecticut when his car rear ended a truck. The car, driven by Luke Doyle Jr. also of Woonsocket, collided with the truck and the driver died at the scene.
Otto H Jensen was elected president of the newly formed Naugatuck Industrial Council at a M C A luncheon. Officers include James A Monahan as vice president Edward T McGrath as secretary and H T McDermott as treasurer The council plans a volley ball league and aims to provide activities for industrial workers with regular meetings on the 1st and 3rd Mondays.

Stratford Conn Dec 4 A U P State Democratic Chairman Adrian W Maher will resign before the Senate acts on his nomination by President Truman for the post of United States district attorney for Connecticut. If confirmed he would succeed Hartford District Attorney Robert P Butler Wallingford Town Clerk John A McGuire has been mentioned as a probable successor as Democratic state chairman.
Willa Phelps Bro, founder of the Eno Foundation for highway traffic regulation, died at age 87 in Norwalk on December 4. An authority on highway traffic matters, Bro helped shape early traffic safety policy and the Eno Foundation’s role in national transportation research.
