Catherine O Connell 55 Rubeber avenue died this morning at Mariana Convalescent Home after a long illness. Don was chosen president of the Glendale Manor Community Club at its annual meeting in the club hall. Francis Noonan joins the Board of Trustees, with Mrs. Robert Knapp elected vice-president and several others named as trustees. The club schedules a Shrimp May party Friday night and a children’s party for December 20, with a Brownie troop Christmas event for mothers on December 17 at 8:30 PM.
Borough board last night left winter sledding area decisions to the Park Department. Warden Fellows proposed extending Millville avenues to Fields street for sledding. Borough Attorney Cring warned against using public streets and urged safer locations like portion of Golf Lake and Town Farm. New York crime commission opened hearings on conditions on the waterfront seeking AFL officials’ views on violence and theft along docks.
A crowded town hall debated extending the one way Sun day traffic scheme with Division street becoming two way. Warden Fellows read a petition calling the plan a nuisance and failure while supporters argued the program works and objections centered on hours routes and early start times.

He urged minor amendments for clarity including changing the opening paragraph to read all candidates for town and borough offices. Rep. Mengacci sought clarification to avoid controversy at the primary. Mengacei argued no writ clause exists. petitions must be filed by a set date. Atty. Caine said changes could be made or the bill amended out of existence. The board approved the verbal crucification of the primary as expressed by Atty. Caine.
William J Phalen 66 of 211 Meadow Street died this morning at St Marys Hospital after a several day stay. He was born in Naugatuck and retired last October as a foreman with the U S Rubber Company Footwear Plant. Survived by wife Margaret Phalen and daughter Agnes Phalen Harteford. Funeral set for Friday at 8 30 from C H Green Funeral Home to St Francis Church for requiem high mass. Burial in St James Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
Beacon Falls reports two minor traffic incidents on Route 3 in the Pinestridge area during a winter storm. No injuries or arrests. both vehicles were insured. Town trucks plowed and residents were urged to park with no wheels on sidewalks to keep walkways clear. A special town meeting Wednesday Dec 10 will discuss funding for a $1000 town share to install a traffic light at the center.
