Borough forms subcommittee to explore tax relief options

Mayor Timothy Barth will appoint a burgess subcommittee tonight to study alternatives to his failed tax collection plan after the Nov. 12 vote. The group will seek ways to offset a property tax rise tied to the 10 year revaluation and may review selling liens in parts or wholly. Kogut and Croce offered to join and study options with a bipartisan aim, presenting findings by April 1 and possibly asking the Legislature to extend the October deadline if needed.

Heath High School Mourns After Prayer Meeting Shooting

In West Paducah Kentucky Heath High School students gathered in the lobby before classes to pray for three friends killed during a prayer meeting. Guidance counselor Allan Warford described a somber scene while Principal Bill Bond explained the school would reopen with counselors on hand and regular classes to resume. A 14 year old freshman Michael Carneal was arrested amid the investigation and authorities cited a mix of grief and resolve to continue schooling despite the tragedy.

Planning panel rejects east side 149 home plan

Planning Commission gave an unfavorable recommendation to Morgan Development Corp for a planned development district off Osborn Road. The plan to donate 13 1/2 acres for six soccer fields and 27 more acres from Connecticut Water Co. faces state approvals and possible reconsideration if Morgan appeals or revises. Voices cited safety issues and regulatory violations, with a four-fifths vote hurdle in other bodies and proposals to modify road access and sidewalks.

Dover-area Dunkin Donuts faces code violations over parking

Meadow Sweet Dunkin Donuts owner Manuel Rocha reopened his store in Naugatuck on Oct 27 without a certificate of occupancy.
