State Unit Surveys Mail Situation Gelling Worse
Hartford dispatch reports ongoing postal service deterioration in Connecticut as MAC surveys show 397 of 1 077 mailed pieces from West Hartford took four days or more to reach destinations in state towns including Collinsville and Norwalk. In March, most mail took three days. MAC executive vice president Arthur Woods notes cooperation with postal officials failed to improve service, with 212 items taking more than six days in September and 13 taking two weeks. Providence Teachers Reject City Final Offer in Strike Day
Providence teachers vote to reject the school board's final contract, entering a second week of a citywide strike that has kept 26,000 students out of 56 schools. The 1,200 union members, 84 percent of the faculty, plan to withhold services until the arbitration award is fully honored and a new contract signed.

Senators back bigger urban renewal funding move

Santa Claus Not Banned In Marblehead After All

Institute For Blind Opens Drive In Hartford Area
The Connecticut Institute for the Blind launches the first phase of a 95 thousand dollar statewide fund drive with three mailing campaigns aimed at residents of Greater Hartford and the northeast. Funds support Oak Hill School for the Blind in Hartford and tax deductible gifts are noted. The school serves 177 students from 35 CT communities and 10 out of state children this year.
