Snow flurries hit the Naugatuck area causing traffic slowdowns. The first snowfall began around 3 a.m. and largely melted by noon, then a second light fall around 4 p.m. left a thin white trace. Temperatures fell to 28 degrees with not above 39 during the day. A few skidding accidents occurred north of Waterbury, none in the borough.
The Rev Paul F Keating pastor of St Francis church is reported to be doing well at St Marys Hospital where he has been receiving medical treatment since November 16. Anthony Loman 82 of 170 Spring atront suffered a fractured skull when struck by a truck on the Naugatuck Waterbury highway and is reported to be doing well at St Marys Hospital.
Anthony Bachinsky of Cold Spring road Beacon Falls died Saturday night at home after a short illness. Born in Lithuania he lived in Beacon Falls 50 years and was employed by U S Rubber Co until retirement. Survived by wife Antoinette and four daughters and four sons, nine grandchildren. Funeral 8:15 a m from Buckmiles Funeral Home to St Michaels Church Beacon Falls for 9 a m Mass. Burial in St James Cemetery Naugatuck. Friends may call today 2–5 and 7–10 p m.
Members of the Exchange Club Gold Medal Award Committee will meet tonight at 8 p.m. in the high school. The committee, comprising Exchange Club members and nonmembers, is chosen each year to select the local person whose community spirit and contributions merit the Gold Medal. Chairman Jules Dor will preside. Hartford, Dec. 1. A night watchman at Capitol City Bumber Co. was slugged and fed in by three youths early today. The watchman, Joseph Barry of South Glastonbury, managed to defend himself and call police. The youths were chased to West Hartford and captured in a cell, where they were arrested. Apparently nothing was stolen.
Police Chief John J. Gormley endorses continued Sunday one way traffic to ease congestion. Borough churches and merchants weigh in as the borough board meets to decide whether to extend or modify the plan, with Chamber of Commerce urging continuation and Division Street proposed to become two way.
Casimir Charles Konavage 74 of Naugatuck died Saturday at his home after a brief illness. Born in Lithuania he came to the United States 50 years ago, lived in Schenectady 12 years, then moved to Naugatuck 38 years ago where he operated a restaurant until retirement 16 years ago. He was a communicant of St Mary’s Church and member of St George’s Society and Fraternal Order of Eagles. Survived by wife Antonina, two sons Bronistaw and Charles, daughter Helen, a sister and two brothers in Lithuania, and four grandchildren. Condemnation hearings to obtain land for the Prospect street school are set for 2 PM in the town hall court room Borough Attorney Martin J Caine said he will represent the borough. Defendants are Patrick Costello Henry Zwick and Mrs Wilhelmina Bennett. Appraisers for the Stephen J Sweeney property on Central Avenue will be named Friday in Waterbury Superior Court.

Walter Reuther and Allan Haywood lead contenders with 700 delegates poised to vote amid private negotiations and possible floor clashes. Secretary Tobin will address the gathering urging a united labor movement.
The Navy wins preliminaries in its bid for a third super aircraft carrier. Defense Secretary Lovett approves including funds in the 1984 budget awaiting Congress next month. If Eisenhower supports the plan, the Republican 82nd Congress may grant the money.
Hartford December 1 Governor Lodge says the report that he may be named ambassador to Italy is "just a rumor." The rumor has circulated this year with Drew Pearson citing it. Lodge, Eisenhower supporter, says he has not been offered the post and is not keen on leaving office before his term ends.
A 26 year old war veteran from New York returns from Denmark after six operations and hormone injections that transformed him into Christine Jorgen. Doctors Christian Hamburger and Bam Iverson oversaw the process. Parents in New York learned of the change by letter as Christine embraces womanhood, hopes for Hollywood work, and urges others with gender doubts to pursue the same path.
Several plant workers injured in a Friday afternoon flash fire at the Footwear Plant were listed in good condition at St Marys Hospital Waterbury. Injured residents include Anthony Kabat 37 Irma Kunkel 21 and Josephine Sportero 24. Officials probe the fabric shoe room explosion under Plant Safety Supervisor E C Shedd as damage estimates await appraisal.
Naugatuck observes Industry Education Day with 129 teachers and 17 parish volunteers touring local industries. The event, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and Board of Education, will close all public and parochial schools while several thousand students stay home. Six tours will be conducted, each group taking one site visit.
Robert G. Rabtoy 26 of Naugatuck, a Marine stationed at Groton, is in fair to critical condition at W C Backus Hospital Norwich after being struck Friday night on Deery Hill Montville by a car driven by Albert Krohn of New London. Rabtoy, who returned from a year in Korea, was walking back to a stopped car when hit. He is a 1950 Naugatuck High School graduate and Bates College Fairfield University attendee. Police continue investigation with State Trooper John H W Kearney leading the inquiry.
Fritz Oseneau 75, of Main Street Beacon Falls, died this morning at LaValles Convalescent Home. Born in Germany he lived in Beacon Falls about 25 years with no known survivors. Funeral services will be held Wednesday from Buckmiller Funeral Home 82 Fairview Avenue. time and arrangements to be announced. Visitation is scheduled tomorrow evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
Four children ages one, three, five, and seven were found asleep when firemen arrived at 147 Washington Avenue Waterbury shortly after 1 a m. The alarm came in at 1 02 a m as four fire engines led by Battalion Chief Arthur Schiavone responded. Firefighters broke the front door and opened windows to vent smoke while the Hammock parents arrived about 30 minutes later. The children appeared undisturbed but were made chilly by the draft as crews searched for extra bed clothing.
Mrs Blanche Lheureux of 4 percent of 78 Birch street Biddeford Maine died this morning at St Marys Hospital after a short illness. Born in Canada she leaves her husband Adrien and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be from Buckmiller Funeral Home 82 Fairview Avenue with time announced later.
The State Highway Department, at the request of the Naugatuck Chamber of Commerce, conducts a traffic count on the corner of Main and Maple streets from 10 a m to 6 p m to determine how the traffic light may be corrected to speed up traffic at the intersection.
Hartford December 1 UP Republican State Chairman Clarence F Baldwin hinted he may have been offered a private industry post. He previously said he could leave his $6000 yearly political job for a firm near Woodbridge. He noted several men spoke to him recently and he has not decided, possibly staying until next spring's legislature adjourns.
