Sergeant W. E. Reilly received two Purple Heart medals for wounds suffered while serving with the Infantry Division. He landed in France soon after D-Day and fought through France Belgium Holland and Germany. Reilly endured shrapnel injuries to his jaw neck and hand and later a gas attack while facing SS troopers. He trained at Camp Carson and attended New York University before returning to combat duties.
Patrolman Richard J. Kelly, 79 of Woodbine street, resigns from the local police force after 33 years of service citing ill health. The oldest regular on the force, he will be placed on pension after the board of warden and burghess meeting Tuesday night. Chief John Gormley praises his untiring police work and faithful service. The race centers on President Froehlich versus former President Joseph Kenluben after Kenluben trailed by 24 votes last Wednesday.

Joe A Doran of 15 Maple Terrace drove his 1941 Pontiac coupe to the firehouse at 9 30 PM with a smouldering blaze in the back seat cushions. Firemen extinguished the fire, finding extensive damage and suspecting a cigarette as the ignition source. The fire department also responded to a second incident on Rubber Avenue where coal gas seepage from an open flue was reported. Fire Marshal Shea was notified.
Mrs Joyce Waite 26 wife of George Waite Jr of 146 Johnson Street died Friday afternoon at Waterbury hospital. An infant son died last Friday.
