Giles R Youngs aged about 50 died at his South Main Street home around 8 30 PM after an illness that began Saturday. A long time chief car inspector for the Consolidated road he served on the local sheriff board. His wife and daughter were away Sunday but were summoned when his condition worsened. Saved by a Scrub Willow on a California Cliff

Miss Ella Bourne, daughter of a ranchman near Bolinas, was riding with friends when she fell from her horse and plunged over a cliff. She grabbed a scrub willow about 40 feet below the road and, despite a broken arm and severe lacerations, clung to the frail branch while rescuers lowered J. R. Brown of Stockton to haul her up. Italians in New Haven Resist Police Flag Order

Italian community in New Haven reacted to Captain James P. Brewer’s order requiring the American flag to be displayed in a position of honor.
