In The Bronx at 188th Street and Arthur Avenue a dispute over a craps game led to a melee between about a dozen negroes and as many whites. Jesse Green, a negro, was shot by John Hilbert after threats with weapons as police halted a potential race riot. Green was taken to Fordham Hospital in serious condition. Police sought Hilbert as crowds clashed and reserves were deployed.
