Utica New York August 1 two Cleveland glass workers dake Ghering and Charles Dunn set out from their home to sail Oneida Lake to Lewis Point. An hour after launch the boat capsized Dunn lashed himself and Ghering together and kept Ghering's head above water with one arm while clinging to the keel. They drifted until 10 pm when a sand-bar near Sylvan Beach drove ashore. Ghering was dead and Dunn, exhausted, may recover.
The Atlantic line steamer Altu from Kingston and Costa Rican ports is detained at quarantine after the death of Maria J. Martinez, a 33 year old Barranquilla school teacher, from yellow fever aboard. Her body was buried at sea. The ship will undergo thorough disinfection and fumigation.
