The bill grants local option to towns and cities to permit professional baseball and football games on Sunday afternoons between 2 and 6 o clock, with amateur sports allowed under the existing law. It becomes effective July 1 and follows vetoes by Holcomb Lake and Templeton in prior administrations after a decade of legislative fight.

The funeral for James O Connell was held at 9 30 from his home 55 Rubber avenue and 10 at St Francis church with a requiem high mass. John Burke and Miss Frances Higgins sang Abide With Me and John Burke performed solos during the service. Pallbearers included Patrick Coffey Daniel Roach Michael Dugan John Shea John Dooling Edward Shea. Burial followed at St James cemetery with service at the grave by Rev Father Morrison. The obituary notes the funeral of Mrs Rita Weiss will be held tomorrow at 8 50 from 3 South Main street to St March church for a requiem high mass followed by burial at St James cemetery.
