Miss Grace M Harrison weds Emery E B Watson in a quiet Ionia home ceremony Sept 1. The couple, graduates of State Normal, will start teaching at Pullman Washington after a wedding trip via Traer Stockport Omaha Denver Salt Lake City and National Park. The groom has taught at Wheaton College and in Iowa schools while the bride is Nashua High School and Normal graduate.
Crowds flocked to the ninth Big Four fair last week under favorable weather with abundant exhibits from farms, machinery, floral displays, and art. Hog and poultry displays were smaller due to feed shortages, while horses and cattle remained strong. Side attractions, electric theater, dogs and ponies, and a wild west show drew large crowds. auto races and baseball games between Nashua and Charles City provided suspense and action.
Nashua wins the series with a single run scoring in the eleventh inning on a fumbled ball and two fly outs to right field. Smithson pitched for Nashua and Greene for Charles City, with Noble catching for Nashua and Holmes for Charles City. Umpire TM County Clerk ONeill officiated all three games as Nashua outplayed Charles City in errors hits and base runners.
Dr Geo Nobie and his wife travel from Bore Idaho to Philadelphia and Washington for congresses and tuberculosis expert gatherings. They plan Nashua visits with parents Mr and Mrs John Noble before returning home. Nobie, now a sheep rancher and veterinarian, recently bought another ranch and received diamonds from Idaho Wool Growers Association in appreciation of services.
Miss Katherine Danforth of Charles City, niece of Mr and Mrs L Woodbridge, married Roy J Sours last Thursday at her father’s home. Rev L Hoars of Marble Rock officiated before about fifty guests. The couple will live on the groom’s Chamberlain farm after a wedding supper and night train ride.
Charles City star Charles Lindsley of the team was said to be assaulted in Nashua after a game amid claims of game fixing. Reports differ. Lindsley allegedly struck a Nashua man with a beer bottle at the depot, leaving him badly beaten but able to continue later that week.
A dramatic novelty The Harvest Moon is coming to town on Wednesday September 23 at popular prices. Seat sales are strong with many inquiries by phone in person and by mail. The production is expected to be a major success with an excellent cast and complete scenic equipment.
