A sharp late weekend storm brought rain and high winds across the South, with numerous tornadoes in Oklahoma, Florida, and surrounding areas. At least 33 lives lost and hundreds injured as power lines, trees, and antennas toppled, disrupting observances and events through Monday.
Rain forced cancellation of the Alemarial Day parade in downtown Nashua and the morning exercises at Oak Hill cemetery. A VFW Post detail visited four cemeteries firing volleys and placing wreaths at a bridge and at soldier monuments in Oak Hill and Greenwood. The detail included Roger Richards Don Scharnhorst Richard Lumley Roy Fritze Roger Hirsch Chuck Jensen and Owen Simmons.
A rough recap credits John Clapp and Orlin hard with leading a pitching effort as the team pounded for 10 hits in multiple innings. Gary, Franzen, Ike and Nashua are noted for RBI contributions amid a hazy lineup and missing details.
Fifteen students and five instructors depart Nashua to explore the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River on a four day trip. The group will hike from the south rim to the canyon floor then camp at the bottom for a night before returning. Chaperones include Elaine Lovick Marilyn Knilt and Corwin Dunlap.
City baseball organizers announce a meeting on Monday June 4 at the fair grounds at 1 30 PM. The session will cover a week long practice period before games begin the following week and team selections after the first trio of practices.
David Bickert a Nashua schools graduate has been named head of a research center in Longmont Colorado He has worked at the center since 1963 after graduating from SUL His wife and three sons moved there on April 1 and will live with him in Longmont He is the son of Mrs Tim Chandler.
The editor warns of a newsprint shortage affecting local weeklies. With Memorial Day weekend reducing production, no supply of flat sheets is available from Waterloo suppliers. A direct mill order is delayed until early September, forcing use of alternative sources until then.
MR MRS PAUL Hannemann celebrate 35th anniversary with open house Sunday June 10 from 2 to 3 pm at rural home. Marion Haag married Paul Hannemann June 7 1938 at St Michael's Nash. They are parents of Mary Tod Tom Judy Deanna Paul Jr deceased and six grandchildren. No invitations sent.

Mr. and Mrs. Terry Wood and Mrs. Eileen Roy of Nashua, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Wood of Cedar Falls, and Mrs. Norma Green of Waverly traveled to Concordia Kansas on Tuesday to attend funeral services on Wednesday for James Smith, grandfather of the Wood siblings.

Douglas J. White son of Mr and Mrs Wayne White will graduate June 1 from Haw keye fascilos with an applied associate degree in Animal Science He has accepted a position with Glendell Farms Watering IL owned by Kenneth and Jo Ann Hartman He will serve as herdsman at the 120 cow registered Holstein dairy beginning May 29.
Mr and Mrs Gerald Allison of Tonia celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with an open house Sunday June 10 from 2 to 5 pm at the Congrational church in Tonia. They wed June 15 1933 in West Union. They have two children Beverly Wedeking and Melvin and seven grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs William Ferguson of Waterloo welcome their first child a daughter named Marta Lin born May 19 at Sartori hospital Cedar Falls. She weighed five pounds and 12 ounces. Maternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Robert Slack of Nash and paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Gethon Ferguson of Monroe.
Dr. Edward C. Weisbard, 82, a veterinarian and former Nashua town councilman and Allison mayor, died May 27 at Fridle Nursing Home. Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church Nashua, with burial at Oak Hill. Survived by daughter Elmer Woods family, six grandchildren, five step grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three sisters, and several nieces and nephews. He was born October 2, 1890 in Cedar Falls and educated at Chicago School of Veterinary Medicine. He practiced in Cedar Falls and Allison before moving to Nashua in 1934 retiring 1941. He married Clara LaVerne Graham in 1915. Flowers organized by Laura Janssen and Clarice Goffe. Casket bearers listed. He was a member of the United Methodist church and Maganic lodge of Allison.
A babysitter training clinic is planned in Nashua on Friday June 8 with two sessions at 9 and 11 a.m. at the IPS lounge and a 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. session at the Extension Office in New Hampshire. Topics include child care, safety, and first aid taught by Donna Andeusyk and Dorothy Frank.
Dr Wick attended the dedication lunch and reception for the new Dental Science building at the University of Iowa, after visiting ceremonies for the old 1917 building. The old structure belonged to the first graduating class of 1918.
Mr and Mrs Marion A Cagley observe their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday June 3 with an open house at the Ionia Congregational church from 2 to 4 pm. They were married June 8 1923 in Stony City and have six children and 16 grandchildren hosted by their children.
Sixty members met at the U L and D dining room in Plainfield for a Greater Plainfield Community meeting. Rev. Robert Cannon of Sumner spoke on law and middle income housing projects using Sumner's hoting project as an example. Funeral services for George A. Fisher 95 were held at First United Methodist Church Nashua at 2 p.m. Friday May 25 with Rev Robert Lerermann officiating and burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Fisher, born July 18 1877 in Mower County Minnesota, died at his son Geralds home after a heart attack. He married Katie Isabel Bishop November 14 1901 and lived on a Nashua area farm before moving in with Gerald and Harriett. He was a respected long time resident who cared for his soil and livestock.
