One hundred ten relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Teeple in Greene for the 26th annual Thomas family reunion on Sunday August 1. The day featured a sumptuous noon meal, games and visiting, with ice cream and cake in the afternoon. Oldest attendee was Mrs. Will Robinson aged 78, while the youngest was Darrell Thomas, two and a half months old. Officers elected included Frank B. Tracy as president and Edith Robinson as secretary. Families from Nashua Charles City Cresco Aitkin Marble Rock and Greene attended, with many members expressing hope to meet in Nashua next year.
Miss Bess Sovereign daughter of Mrs R J Sovereign Des Moines and Hewett B Anderson Des Moines married at high noon June 10 at the Little Brown Church Nashua Iowa. Rev William Kent officiated. The bride wore white satin princess gown with long sleeves and carried a silk lace handkerchief and small white bible. Her sister Mrs Ethel Bell was maid of honor in canary yellow organza. Best man was Paul Denburg of Ames. Music featured Elsie Sovereign singing and Dorothy Krohnke with Iva Lucile West on organ.

Nashua residents Mr. and Mrs. E W Edoward observed their golden wedding with an open house at their Nashua home attended by a hundred friends. Sons James of Nashua and John of New Hampton hosted relatives and guests from Osage Orchard and Charles City. The couple began married life near Nashua and remained active in the Congregational church. Henry Trout officiated fifty years ago.
The Bradford Hinsilers 4-H Club demonstration team from Nashua, led by Mrs. Will Pierce, includes Margaret Pierce and Mary Annee Tracy. Delores Asphalt of New Hampton, county health champion, also travels to Des Moines for 4-H contests. The group will demonstrate crafting a dressing table and contest against other counties’ champions after leaving Sunday with numerous county exhibits.
Loren Charles Hance a pioneer settler of the Tonia area died Friday at 86 after a long Ill health. Born January 20 1848 near Rockford Illinois he traveled with his family to Iowa and settled near TonIa in the 1850s. He married Cynthia Lowe in 1869 and Emmiline Trusty in 1900. survived by children Josie Potter Lillian Bray and others, plus 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 pm at the Congregational church in Tonia with Rev Halbert officiating and burial in Cedar View Cemetery Chickasaw.
County records show 2378 bushels unsealed last week in Chickasaw, a new weekly high since sealing began. About 70,000 of 306,000 bushels in the county have been unsealed, reflecting progress across ten weeks.
Andrew Friedl, hospitalized in Waterloo from injuries in a Nast l a week ago Saturday night altercation with Allen Demro, is reported to be recovering from a fractured skull and concussion. Demro bound over to the next Chickasaw county district court term on assault with intent to commit great bodily injury, with $1000 bond. Hearing held before Justice C. A. Upham at New Hampton.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 30 p m at St John's Lutheran church for Wilhelm Johann Hagen who died Sunday at Charles City Interment will be in the Ashton cemetery 12 miles southwest of Nashua He was born in Germany December 22 1871 and came to Floyd county with his parents in 1887 His parents a sister and four brothers preceded him in death Miss Anna Hagen of Nashua is the surviving sister

The Chickasaw County Conciliation Board will meet in the court house at New Hampton on Monday Sept 3 at 10 30 am for its bi monthly session. Members Anton Rosenke E B Tracy Wim Klotz Theo Roths and Joe Franzen act as arbitrator to aid debt adjustments and refinancing offers from the Federal Farm Credit Administration to prevent foreclosures. Debtors are urged to present facts and come early to ensure time for cases.
A. Upham will be manager and W. J. Tiernan assistant at the state retail liquor store in New Hampton, announced by Chairman H. M. Cooper of the state liquor commission. In Waverly Floyd Smith was named manager and W. J. Klaudt assistant. Managers receive a salary of $100 a month and assistants $85.
Colwell team wins the girls kittenball tournament at Carr ville after opening wins by Nashua and Charles City Knobs. Colwell then defeats the Charles City Dodgers and the Knobs to clinch the title as Carrville hosts a boys pickup game.
M M Thurow, secretary of the Chickasaw County Corn Flob Control association, announced a 14 percent expense for the first six months and a 1 percent share of all payments due to contract signers. The Sew Girls club visited a former member, Mrs C R Dexter, at New Hampton for a picnic dinner with Cassie McCulloch Claudia Smith and several ladies.
Bandits robbed L P Bailey’s General Store at Williamstown on Tuesday night last week forcing workers to lie on the floor and looting cash cigars and liquor. Two men about 5 ft 8 in and 5 ft 11 in fled in a Buick or similar car toward multiple directions, suspected to be the Osage and Clear Lake bandits. Sheriff Geo C Murray links the Williamstown crime to earlier robberies and a failed highway block near New Hampton.

Tit and New Hampton sewing work for winter with four women each town. Eight rural schools to be repaired and painted. two men per school for one week. 22,000 pounds of Kentucky bluegrass seed to plant on parks and school grounds by FERA workers. New Hampton to clean ten miles of streets and gutters and gravel two miles. $250 for materials. 60 days of labor. East Park in New Hampton project finished at $200 park board cost.
Nashua edged Shell Rock 9 to 7 in a Cedar Valley League game Sunday, injuries aside both teams made seven and six errors respectively with six hits apiece. Nashua’s pitchers Wilson and Strike beat Shell Rock’s Bellis and Gambiana. Nashua visits Tripoli next Sunday as Tripoli defeated Waverly 3 to 2 to pull into a first place tie. Tripoli ace Walt Fergemann marked his 25th debut anniversary with a double and two RBIs, celebrated by fans who gave a silver service. Readlyn defeated Sumner 8 to 1 in the other Sunday game.

Miss Genevieve Strawson of Des Moines daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Strawson married Saturday August 11 in Saint Andrews Chapel at St James Episcopal Chicago. The August meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary was held at Mrs. Lew Maloy’s country home on Monday the 27th. President Eva Shufelt presided as Bernice Rust reported the Des Moines state convention where she was elected state historian. Mrs. Maloy entertained in Danish style, wearing native costume and sharing tales and customs, after which a Danish poem was recited. A lunch of chicken sandwiches, pickles, fruit salad, cupcakes, doughnuts and coffee followed. Attending were Ames ladies K. A. Shuteit, A. L. Kout, S. J. Gogg, M. B. Norman, W. F. Warrison, FE. L. Chickasaw County farmers with usable fall pasture are urged to notify County Agent Thurow. Southern Iowa farmers lacking pasture seek sixty days of forage. Drought relief rentals are paid monthly for secure pasture, with shipper covering delivery costs. Pasture provider supplies water and salt for cattle.
Last Friday a break in at Wright Pool Hall on Main Street ended with no losses. Nightwatch Geo Wedemeyer found a man near the wash register as he flashed the front window. The thief fled through the alley before local officers arrived, and the till was left with only about a dollar missing. также an adjacent garage and several cars were tampered with, including siphoned gas and stolen car parts.
Officers of the newly organized Wansipinicon Game and Protective Association met in New Hampton to outline plans for development. AAA administrator Chester C. Davis announces a new extension for corn loan payments to January 1935. Borrowers may release sealed corn for seed by paying 7 cents per bushel to the Commodity Credit Corporation, with prior offer to government agencies at local elevator price. If unaccepted, corn may be sold on open market. The plan aims to liquidate stocks while meeting farmers feed needs and preventing indefinite government holdings.
Rev. Conrad J. Rebelein, pastor of St. John's Lutheran in Nashua, married Miss Gladys Christopher of Waverly at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Waverly. Attendants were Miss Uilda Brandt and Geo. Rebelein. The couple plans to reside in Nashua after a brief Minnesota honeymoon.
Nashua stores will close Wednesday evenings after September 1 until band concerts resume in spring. The note instructs no mention of a 6 p.m. weekday close after this week, with exceptions only for Saturdays.

A purse of 190.65 was given Saturday to Mr and Mrs Abner Grove to aid rebuilding their barn destroyed by a tornado. The loss was heavy as the property lacked insurance. Construction will begin soon with funds solicited by neighbors Reg Graves Simpson Arthur Crooks and Charles Waltz from sympathetic locals.
