The Civic League revived in spring and begins a membership drive under Mark Smith, with dues set at 24 a year. LBC Reunion Draws Crowd for 17th Anniversary Event
The Little Brown Church at the Vale near Nashua hosted its 17th annual Reunion on Sunday August 3 drawing about 1 000 attendees with hundreds more on the grounds. Registrations from over 14 states were logged and prizes were awarded to the longest distance travelers Merlyn McCarters Englewood California and E G Riters Corona California. The newest couple married at the church John W Johnson and his wife received a miniature LBC bank. The sermon was by Rev Daniel Hammel with Rev Glenn Utterbach recently resigning after 17 years as pastor. The service included a renewal of vows for all couples present.

Nashua May fair grounds hosted exhibitors at the commercial building. Mark Smith led businessmen judges with 138 points, runner up with 125, while Gary Fisher tied with Dick Nicholson at 23. University Apartments manager to begin duties this Sunday
The event notes Mr Zuck will manage University Apartments starting Sunday August 10. In the judging, Homer and Connie Siewertsen won the women’s contest with 132.5 points. Caroline Baldwin scored 122 with Kathy Betry 7 and McLaughlin 123. Juniors Brenda Church and Kelly Phend each posted 1432 points. The closest score was 135 by judge Dunham of Ames. Grand champion bull Sugar Valley Titan was shown by Bil Church of RiceVille who also claimed reserve honors. Church also showed the grand champion female Sandburgh Mistress Colleen, a four year old. Medlang of Kensett won 4H and FFA championship. Medlang and Sons earned junior showmanship honors.

Two Concrete Light Poles Shatter After Wire Snag at Main and Depot
At about 1 30 p m a diesel semi hit a strand of wire stretched across the Main Depot intersection causing two reinforced concrete street light standards to topple. Driver William G Robertson of Charles City told Chief Max Hurlbut he has navigated the corner many times but never snagged the wire, which IPS owns. The wire, used for Christmas lights, had been lowered by pranksters. no ticket was issued.
