Boddy Couple Feted By Community Friends

Reverend C J Boddy and his wife were surprised by about fifty guests from Narka and surrounding areas who gathered at their farm home Tuesday evening. The social hour featured music followed by ice cream and wafers. Guests praised the Boddy's entertaining hospitality.

Large Livestock Shipment From Narka In One Day

Roy Baker led a major Narka livestock shipment last Tuesday with six cattle cars and four hog cars. Fred Mulch sent two cattle cars and one hog car, while L. G. Ramsbottom added two cattle cars and one hog car, totaling sixteen railcar loads in a single day.

Red Cross Moves Headquarters and Invites Volunteers

The Red Cross relocates from the Masonic Hall to the M. E. parsonage offering ample space and inviting all interested in Red Cross work to meetings on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The Red Cross ladies thank the Masonic Lodge for its hall use in recent months.

Holececk building filled beyond capacity to hear Dr William Harding and Sergt Blythe of General Pershing's detachment speak on trench life and wartime conditions. They later spoke in Belleville Sunday afternoon. Over $700 subscribed to Albion township quota.

Union Meeting for Churches at Narka Presbyterian

A notice invites all church members to a union meeting at the Narka Presbyterian church next Sunday morning April 26 at 11 o'clock. Memorial Day services will be observed with old soldiers invited and the church will dedicate its service flag. Special music and numbers are planned and all are welcome.

Miss Lois Williams of near Belleville married Roy Canfield in a quiet Saturday ceremony. The couple left for a few days' visit with D H Hunt in Manhattan Kansas and will set up house on the Robert Wilson farm southeast of Chester with a prepared home for the bride. Mrs John Shorney spent Thursday with her son John Jr and family. Several families hosted weekend visits including the Klima Pelesky and Shorney households. Eddie Pelesky sustained a minor head hump after a fall. Dr West found no serious injuries. Mrs Frank Waltman was hospitalized in Sabetha for surgery. The Cherry Creek water level unexpectedly rose after a dry spell.

Corn Fed Steers Bring 17 50 A Head in Kansas Sale

R J Bazant of Narka Kansas sold 66 head of branded Hereford steers averaging 1480 pounds at 17 50 today. A prior spring sale fetched the same price for 20 Kansas steers averaging 1618 pounds. Bazant bought the lot last October at 10 40 a head, weighing 1040 pounds with a 440 pound gain and 7 10 feed margin.

Railroads Lose $109 Million Under Common Operation

Washington May 15 Railroads earned 71.7 million in the first quarter of this year versus 170.4 million a year earlier, leaving the government about 109 million in losses under the system of common operation. The Interstate Commerce Commission report covers all but five of the 196 railroads in the country.
