Roll of Honor lists cash subscriptions since the last issue. Notable entries include W. A. Kuchera and B. IL. Light with new marks indicating new subscribers. Ernest babe appears among names.
A nephew Ralph writes from the 11 Bar Ranch in the Bitter Root Valley near Hamilton Montana. He describes mountains rivers wildlife and farming, compares Bitter Root to Kansas and Ohio, notes altitude around 4000 feet and a 7000 feet view, and mentions deer grouse and wild horses while sharing ranch life and weather on a Sunday afternoon.
Figures show 31 cars cattle 39 hogs and 10 horses shipped since Jan 1. The 70 cars averaged 1300 per car totaling 91000. J M Baker topped with two cattle cars at 630. Feil paid 29705 for horses with eastern rep 8400 noted.
Mr J M Baker and son shipped eleven cars of corn fed cattle Monday and J M six loads Tuesday. Mr Hudson joined cattle shipments Monday. W H Shoemaker of Belleville led the County Board of Health on their county inspection tour Wednesday. A carryall and an auto attended revival meetings at Mahaska Sunday evening. Mr Purtell reports strong success with forty conversions. Mrs J W West and Wanda visited Topeka Thursday to see Mr and Mrs Strang. Wanda will go to Chicago for medical treatment. J C Jensik and T A Osdfey returned from a western trip Friday. Jensik bought an eighty acre farm in Collejos county, near La Jara DE. Lover and son Ray returned Friday from Edna Texas with land purchase from the Hayes ranch. crops reportedly good and corn ears developed. For sale: 160 acres unimproved land in Washington county Kansas near a country store on R F Dr. Purchaser must provide $2500 down and owner will carry mortgage at usual rate payable as suited. Sunday evening Rev. Rath united Miss Myrtle Ward and Harry Bell in marriage after church. The bride is daughter of W. T. Ward and lifelong resident. The groom, a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Aicker, has made many friends during his stay. They left Monday for Falls to visit relatives. he has employment there.
The Business Men of Hubbell defeated Narka 26 to 25 after eleven innings in an exciting Tuesday contest. Several substitutes saw action as the rusty pros produced many hits and runs. A big game was underway at our Ball Park with Cuba vs Narka scheduled to follow.
City officers bought a public dumping ground one mile south and a half mile west on the southwest corner of Jos Bouska’s farm. The plot cost the city 150 dollars for a ten year lease. A general cleaning of the alleys is now urged.
Notice to property owners to mow all weeds on their lots and adjacent alleys by June 25, 1911. Failure to comply will result in the work being done and charges assessed.
Town invitation for Friday evening June 380 at the L C Wailes residence hosted by Ida folks. Families urged to attend an old fashioned gathering with proceeds to repair the Tds church. Everyone invited.
Dr West helped Earl Botts receive hospital care after funds were raised by the Narka community. The three churches plan union meetings in the park with comfortable seats and music. A two-from-each-church committee will organize, led by J M Baker. Parish pastors will alternate nightly sermons at eight o clock.
Municipal crews require all rubbish and debris in alleys and on lots to be hauled away by July first or the area will be cleaned at a rate of one dollar per load. Property owners will be charged for the work.
Roy Nata' ka Hews, son of editor Addington Nata' ka Hews of Webss Iowa, drowned in the Mississippi at Minneapolis Minnesota. He and companions swam when he was carried downstream and either cramps or fatigue seized him. His body was recovered after four days. The News extends sympathy to the family.
A local quarrel led to the forced departure of a peaceful Mexican family after threats by a few residents. The town deployed night guards to protect them, expressing disappointment that citizens caused the disgrace and hoping such incidents do not recur.
Notice to Citizens states alleys must be cleaned by July 1 or the city will perform the work at $1.00 per load and bill the owners. Issued by order of the Mayor and Health Officers.
