Reports say five hundred perished as a colossal storm wrecked St Louis and nearby areas. Electr ic light and gas works failed, Convention Hall roof collapsed, and Drake NL Drake Dyas village fatalities noted. Widespread destruction, trains derailed, and order slow to restore.
A union manager at the relay depot recalls climbing amid the demolished area. He lists multiple landmarks destroyed including the Tremont House Martell House DeWolf cafe Hezel Milling mill Horns copper shop and many dwellings east to fifth street. B&O Vandalia round-house Standard Oil works East St. Louis Crescent elevators and twelve freight houses on the levee are also ruined.
A tornado and explosive blast swept the Illinois riverfront wrecking the J. J. Odell with 12 crew and three women aboard. several crew survived by leaping and swimming while others were lost. The Belle of Baton Rouge and other vessels were driven from moorings and wrecked near Chateau Avenue. harbor boats and smaller craft suffered extensive damage. Heroic acts were reported as crews battled the storm and saved some lives.
The catastrophe crushed buildings along Gratiot and Ninth streets including Waters-Pierce tanks and Cod Manufacturing. Many dead and injured flood hospitals. Old City hospital loses its north wing. Boats wrecked, crews evacuated. reports of 160 dead at Lexington and 100 at another point. Passengers and crew faced peril at the river, with rescue efforts chaotic and ongoing.
An officer denied a boat left St Louis for Alton at noon to run an excursion. A storm threatened the trip. the engineer said a train crossing a Missouri bridge escaped danger as the storm peaked. Weather conditions in the week featured low pressure and warm moist air from the south. A long list of names and addresses followed, including residents, workers, and facility staff connected to St Louis and nearby towns.
An upper span collapsed and a bridge washed away near the Illinois shore after a fierce wind storm. Cars overturned and sections of track buried under debris as fire raged, injuring several and destroying a refrigerator warehouse and a Catholic church.

City hospital lists many grievously hurt. death toll rising with dozens more unaccounted for as East St Louis courts the wreck.
Baldwin Missouri reports a hurricane with heavy rain and hail over St Louis County at 4 30 Wednesday. Torrential rain lasted three hours with hail several inches deep. Crops were badly damaged and buildings blown down though few injuries reported. Moberly Missouri reports a tornado that killed ten people.
A sequence of cyclones struck multiple towns including Vandalia depot ruins with missing and dead reported. Dozens feared dead across Labaddie Franklin county Renick Sturgeon Missouri area. Injuries include three children at Renick and eighti eighty dead at Drake schoolhouse tragedy.
East St Louis reports a growing casualty list from the disaster. Names include Miss May Walter, Miss Josie Walter, John Bulking, Frank Henson, James Conway, infant of Mrs Hamilton, Daniel Hartner, Mrs Daniel Heither, Mrs Castle, Gustave Leitner, Chris Smith, William Swanett, railroad engineer, Fireman MacGonzise, Henry Altate, Tootney, Thed Riss, and others, with several listed as seriously injured or dying.
