Obituary: George William Dawson Mahaska native dies at 22

George William Dawson born October 14 1893 in King City Missouri died June 30 1916 at Shoemaker hospital Lincoln Nebraska aged 22 years 8 months 16 days He married Emma Masten June 26 1914 After illness and surgeries he sold his dray business and bought a Mahaska restaurant He united with the Christian church at 17 and died after a hospital operation His wife mother three sisters five brothers and other relatives mourn him Funeral services were held July 2 at the M E church Mahaska Cemetery interment in Mahaska cemetery Mahaska Leader

Harvest Season Opens in Rich Wheat and Corn

Farmers began cutting wheat on Saturday with binders ready and harvesters seen by Monday. Crops look strong, rains were ample, corn stands well and is mostly to be laid by this week. Wheat weather has been ideal and oats promise a strong yield for several years.

Third Annual Farmers and Merchants Picnic Planned for Narka

A Webster building meeting last Thursday evening yielded a favorable finance committee report. It was unanimously decided to hold the Third Annual Farmers and Merchants Picnic in Narka on Thursday and Friday, August 17 and 18. Committees are appointed. full lists will appear next week. Every citizen should boost the event for success.

Auto Crash Near Town Injures Lacy Couple

Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Lacy, driving home from Hubbell, halted on a hill near Mr. Heriik’s when the engine died. The car rolled back, went over an embankment, and overturned, pinning Mr. Lacy beneath it and bruising Mrs. Lacy. He suffered broken ribs and bruises. she had minor injuries. They are reported as doing as well as could be expected.

Auto Accidents Mentioned In Local Lane Four

Automobile incidents near Haddam Tuesday evening caused damage and injuries. J G Nemee’s Studebaker struck a bank causing a broken car and arm cut for John, while Eli Fry and wife and baby survived after their car’s front axle failed and they were thrown through the windshield with minor injuries.

Chopin Club Concert Notes Opens Summer Series

The Chopin Club met Friday June 30 with Miss Sylvia Shoemaker leading a varied program. Performances included piano solos Vienna Echoes Love's Caprice Polonaise and other vocal and piano pieces by Laura Muth Emma Brosh Hazel Shoemaker and Ethel Holly. A brief business meeting followed by light refreshments concluded a pleasant afternoon.

Union Gospel Meetings Planned for City Park Sundays

Announced schedule for July Sunday gospel meetings in City Park. Rev. L Keeler to preach next Sunday with M E church in charge of music, then Rev. C E Tincher and Presbyterian choir to lead following Sundays. If rain, services move to churches with pulpit exchanges. Committees named to secure music and handle offerings. Services start at 8 o'clock. attendees to bring chairs and light for comfort and focus on spiritual and communal refreshment.
