Carl Dargos builds a new barn with carpentry by Minis and Thaller men. Neighbors and relatives share visits throughout last week including Durgos, Coonrod, Thaller, McKeever, Martin, Freeman and Gregory families. Students absent due to illness and a schoolday tonic include Johnnie Gregory Elmer Goson.
Fairbury residents and relatives frequent Narka week events with visits from Leigh Feil, Jos. Lovdi, Marguerite Peters, and many others. Discharges from the army arrive or are celebrated, while school, farm, and family activities fill days in Mahaska, Belleville, and surrounding towns.
Mrs Anna Crammer who has been caring for her brother Lewis Justice the past week returned to her home in Belleville Wednesday evening. Crammer accompanied her home for a short visit.
The Red Cross will hold its regular business meeting on Saturday February 8. Attendees are urged to attend and sewing volunteers are invited to come for sewing materials to take home.
Mrs Ella Nelson and her husband, sister of Mrs A B Johnson and Robi Nyland, plan to enter the mission field in Africa. They will leave their Denver home March 1 under the Swedish Lutheran church auspices. The Nelsons had long tied to family in this county.
William Westhausen a Republic county farmer near Talmo serves as a director of a newly started Socialist publishing house at Lawrence Kansas. The corporation includes ten to twelve Kansas businessmen, with capital of 90000 dollars, and began a weekly Socialist organ for the state with plans to issue a daily paper later.
Rev. L. C. Hicks, pastor of Scandia and Providence Chapel Methodist churches, has been appointed district director of the Centennial Sunday school and church campaign. He will visit surrounding communities to boost enthusiasm and strengthen local schools while continuing his pastoral duties.
Mrs. Celia Bowling near Rydal learns her nephew Cecil Ainsworth was crippled for life in action in France and would be sent home at once. Ainsworth is also nephew of Bert Ainsworth a Norway banker.
The petition from the Midland Trail district from the Clay County line to the Meridian road proposes a concrete 18 foot wide road. More than sixty percent of landowners in the benefit district signed the petition as presented to county commissioners.

Will McCracken and daughter Elizabeth traveled to Belleville for dental work. Cora Lamb of Wichita is holding a revival at the Quaker church. Frank Figgins of Walnut Creek visited for meetings. Edd McCracken and family visited Bert Hoffmans near Mahaska. Henry Bergstrom and children visited with Will McCracken's family. Jesse Devore and Elizabeth McCracken called on Dan Bilinger. Stoward Cline visited home folks in Haddam. Ward family and Delia Haworth visited Jesse Dorman.
Mark Bowman of Hubbell Nebraska was found drowned in Rose Creek Tuesday evening. The 69 year old paralytic stroke survivor had been home all day before disappearing at about five o'clock. He is survived by a wife and six children. Funeral services were set for Saturday February 8. The body was recovered by O J Gooden and Alfred Miller and taken to Wm Shell’s undertaking room. The obituary will be published later. Ray Ashton is sick with the fly.
The Hubbell School has bought a Victrola to enhance music education across all grades. A short program will mark Lincoln's birthday next Wednesday morning at the high school with visitors welcome.

Hilda Fiser stayed Wednesday with sister Mrs Herbert Rose. Mr and Mrs John Horky visited with Mr and Mrs Albert Scheer and daughter. Mr and Mrs Herbert Hackbarth with Wm Hackbarth were Fairbury visitors Saturday. Miss Cora Hackbarth helped sister Mrs Bert Hackbarth Friday.

David P. Triesen, a transient, was arraigned in Justice Court before Justice A. A. Burk at Belleville and pled guilty to burglary. He was bound over to the February district court term opening Monday. Triesen allegedly broke into Charles Moore's Agenda home and stole clothing and footwear. He remains in Belleville county jail awaiting trial.
Dr. E F Keene, a dentist, announces opening his practice in Narka Kansas offering general dental services to local residents with emphasis on family care.
Annual gathering of the Kansas Division of the Pikes Peak Ocean to Ocean Highway Association known as The Pershing Transport Route will be held in Belleville on Saturday February 5. J Frank Smith general manager of the Kansas Good Roads Association will be the principal speaker.
Belleville civic leaders host delegates after a business session and a seven o clock dinner at The Elliott. The Kansas City meeting of the Associated Highways of America promotes a 42 trunk line network aimed at federal aid and a proposed Federal Highway Commission. The event, described as the largest good roads gathering, signals rapid development of transcontinental routes and Belleville at a pivotal crossroad of Americas highway system.
Centerdale residents recall visits with family and neighbors across the week. Robt Kerr attends a stock show in Sabetha Kansas while G. E. Waring promotes auctions from Chester, claiming a strong Pawnee City sale with 100 horses, mares and two-year-old mules auctioned.
Fire destroyed the interior of Belleville High School in the early hours, leaving brick walls intact. The 60 000 dollar pressed brick building housed a 21 000 dollar insurance. Fire began in the domestic art room on the third floor and spread before alarm. Firemen fought for three hours with chemicals exhausted and water streams from the ground. Deshler mourns as Mr John Rodenburg and wife die Saturday in an automobile accident near Orange California during their honeymoon. Rodenburg, Deshler bank president and livestock man, and his wife were long known in Thayer county. Bodies brought back to Deshler for burial.
Arthur Wilkes near Belleville placed a two week advertisement in The Telescope offering three incubators for sale. He sold all three the day after the issue appeared and stopped the ad. He praised the Telescope for good service and said he could have sold more.
Mrs Pearl Calhoun and Mrs Elmer Hiatt visited Fairbury for dental work. George Taylor rested with his sister Mrs Lucy Allsman after illness. J B West and family attended a dinner at Sidney Howell and a W B Warren sale. Cattle trades occurred with L H Presnall. Spicer and Allsman families hosted and visited in Andrew county area.
