Since the last issue two respected citizens, Philip Feil Sr. and B H Speer, have died. Early settlers, they shaped the region by building schools and churches, raising families, and leaving a good name. The community offers heartfelt sympathy and urges others to live rightly for a joyful reunion in the hereafter.
B. H. Speer born May 19 1845 died Dec 17 1915 aged 70 years 6 months 28 days native of Green Co Ohio served in Illinois army then Brown county Kansas Mabaska and finally Narka where he resided 22 years He was a Presbyterian elder and Bible teacher funeral held December 19 at home Rev L Keeler officiated with text Rev 22 14 Interment Maple Grove Cemetery

Mrs B H Speer who had been very ill for some time after her husband died Friday noon passed away at six o clock Wednesday morning. The funeral will be held at the home at two o'clock Thursday Dec 23.
Philip Feil born in Germany June 14 1838 dies at Narka Kansas December 16 1915 aged 77 years 6 months 2 days He came to America in 1848 and settled in Narka 27 years ago One of the village’s oldest settlers he joined the Presbyterian church early in residence He married Margaret Weber in 1864 and had eight children four sons living at Narka and two daughters at Haddam Kan
The obituary notes Phil Feil of Pawnee City Nebraska is mourned by wife family and friends including eight grandchildren and three nephews. Funeral services were at the Presbyterian church in Narka conducted by L Keeler with interment at Maple Cemetery.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to friends and neighbors who aided during the illness and death of their father. Gratitude extended to those sending flowers and aiding in the funeral, especially those who furnished conveyances and assisted at the service. The note announces a Christmas sermon in the morning and a Friday night Christmas service. A season’s souvenir will be ready at the morning service. The Sunday School and church plan an interesting event, with pastor L Keller extending a welcome. Mrs Nebeker of Daykin Nebraska and Mrs Christison of Fairbury are noted in attendance.
Mrs Henry Peterson hosted a utility shower at her home for Miss Lillie Fiser, the bride to be, on Saturday December 18. Guests created bell shaped booklets with EL letters and enjoyed a two course luncheon with green, red and white decor.
