Mysterious shooting injures Ruth Shaver near Creamery
A 16 year old Ruth Shaver was struck in the right cheek by a .38 caliber bullet fired from ambush near the Belleville Creamery. Three shots were fired, bloodhounds failed to track a scent, and Sheriff deputies pursue several leads with possible arrests.

Garnett J Schoche writes from Great Lakes Illinois August 24 1918 about arriving at camp and receiving clothes. He describes his white uniform feeling well and a vaccination shot in both arms. Proclamation Lifts Public Closures With Fumigation Rule
The city rescinds the order closing schools churches and public gatherings effective August 22 1918 under condition all congregating buildings are thoroughly fumigated and books from families with scarlet fever cases are returned and destroyed. The Board of Health reported four houses under quarantine and six deaths at most since July.

Auto Collision Fatal at Fairgrounds Race
Lawrence Levendofsky was killed and Chester Ball Ted Heigle and Orval Barleen injured when Rex Kent lost control of his car during a professional racing event at the fairgrounds. Kent escaped with minor bruises as the car crashed into the embankment and into the crowd. Levendofsky died moments after the impact. Ball Heigle and Barleen sustained serious injuries. Funeral services for Levendofsky were held in Freedom township.
