Everett Thomas travels to Ft Iti ley for several weeks of work. Mrs. Mike Marsicek and children visit Omaha relatives with Antone Marsicek family. Mrs. W E Day journeys to Kansas City for medical treatment and to visit her son A W Day. Andersons Pharmacy promotes Blackleyoids.
Miss Edith Koerner of Hanover spent last week with Narka friends. Dale Elliott the jeweler visiting cousins Mr and Mrs L J Edwards left Thursday for Colorado. Mr and Mrs Joe Novak of Clay Center visited Antone Marshek and daughter Stella Monday and Tuesday.
One hundred twenty ad ditional men were notified to appear for the physical on Monday August 27 to fill the county quota of 124 for the national army. Of 243 on the first call seventy-two did not seek exemption and were accepted. Exemption requests were reduced by the board to twenty-six, leaving ninety-eight accepted and twenty-six to be chosen from the next group. Names of locals who did not seek exemptions and those overruled or called for next Monday are listed, along with numerous regional social visits and movements, including family visits and deaths. The article notes several residents traveling to nearby towns and the death of a local father.
Mr and Mrs J L Orr departed Saturday to establish a new home at Verdon Nebraska Mrs L S Johnson of Verdon who has been visiting here accompanied them
Henry Feil departed Monday morning for Pawnee City and other Nebraska points. He plans to be away about a week for business and to visit relatives.
In a letter dated August 15 from Great Falls Montana Rev L Keeler writes of traveling to Canada with a coincident acquaintance who pays both ways. He plans to visit Crystal and Yellowstone parks and may stop on return. He expects Malcolm home in about ten days and tentatively dates Sept 1. The party left Centennial last Sunday night traveling by day and staying in trains at night. They plan to depart at 6:30 am and reach Claresholm Alberta by nightfall describing the rough barren country and scattered business towns. He promises a write up of the Centennial trip and perhaps Canada trip later.
The Commercial Club of Belleville will honor Republic County soldier boys called to the front with a program at Court House Park on Friday August 31. A complimentary Red Cross dinner, two free picture shows, three bands, and patriotic speeches will be part of the day with a big auto parade. The county is divided into four districts for a demonstration at the school with largest capacity. Details to be explained at a September 1 meeting. Mary Jansky, Co. Supt.
The note asks how many school boards have buildings ready for work with clean walls and floors, usable outbuildings, sufficient teaching tools, and accessible drinking water. One week remains before classes begin. A writer wishes teachers success in the first week and pledges limited visits unless invited as plans for class demonstrations are made.
Mr and Mrs Henry Justice hosted a family reunion at L W Justice's home last Saturday with all members present except J W Justice and his wife of Cedar Bluffs and Mabel Crammer of Junction City A bountiful dinner featured fried chicken roast beef noodles fruits salads pies and cakes The afternoon included visiting and games and a very enjoyable day Those present included K8 Justice and family of Kall River J H Crammer and family of Belleville I5 Oliver and family and A M Justice and family of Haddam
