Second Call For Examination For Local Draft Quota
One hundred twenty ad ditional men were notified to appear for the physical on Monday August 27 to fill the county quota of 124 for the national army. Of 243 on the first call seventy-two did not seek exemption and were accepted. Exemption requests were reduced by the board to twenty-six, leaving ninety-eight accepted and twenty-six to be chosen from the next group. Names of locals who did not seek exemptions and those overruled or called for next Monday are listed, along with numerous regional social visits and movements, including family visits and deaths. Keeler letter from Great Falls outlines Canada trip
In a letter dated August 15 from Great Falls Montana Rev L Keeler writes of traveling to Canada with a coincident acquaintance who pays both ways. He plans to visit Crystal and Yellowstone parks and may stop on return. He expects Malcolm home in about ten days and tentatively dates Sept 1. The party left Centennial last Sunday night traveling by day and staying in trains at night. They plan to depart at 6:30 am and reach Claresholm Alberta by nightfall describing the rough barren country and scattered business towns. He promises a write up of the Centennial trip and perhaps Canada trip later.

Belleville to Honor Soldier Boys at County Meeting
The Commercial Club of Belleville will honor Republic County soldier boys called to the front with a program at Court House Park on Friday August 31. A complimentary Red Cross dinner, two free picture shows, three bands, and patriotic speeches will be part of the day with a big auto parade.
