Mine accident claims life of George Goldbronson at Butte
George Goldbronson who grew up nearby was killed at Stewart Mine in Butte on August 7 after a fall of ground. His body reached Scandia area Monday for burial at Riverview Cemetery beside relatives including brother Ben Goldbronson. A funeral director’s letter from Butte gave the only details of the fatal incident.

Joseph S. Crummer, 54, died Friday at his home on Park Avenue. A native of Fort Madison Iowa, he moved to Topeka in 1909 and served with the police, later working three years as a Kansas penitentiary steward. He was an Odd Fellow and member of Topeka Lodge No. 40 I O O F. services were held Saturday at 3 pm with burial in Fort Madison.

Windemaker, John J aged 70, dies after long illness in Kansas
John J. Windemaker, born December 9, 1848 in Clark County Ohio, died August 15 1919 at Belleville Kansas after paralysis. He married Rachel Louise Florea in 1881 and had six surviving children. The family lived in Springfield Ohio since 1900 and Windemaker joined the Presbyterian Church early in life. Funeral service was held at the Stephenson home and his body buried in Springfield at Fletcher Cemetery.

Medals for Soldiers From Washington County
The Council of Defense of Washington County ordered seven hundred bronze World War I medals from Whitehead Hoag Co Newark NJ to honor local soldiers sailors and marines. Each medal bears a Maltese cross with a wreath a sunflower and eagle on red white and blue ribbon with space on the back for engraving. Twenty medals carry gold stars for families of the fallen. Medals will be handed out at the Reunion grounds Washington Kansas during August 27 28 and 29 at the registration booth.

Reno County Paving Bids Sought For 40 Miles
Reno County commissioners announce a call for bids to pave forty miles of road from Hutchinson west to Sylvia and to the county line, plus an extension of the Nickerson paved road toward the Rice County line near Sterling.
